You know when you go to menards and go through the pile of 2x4s and toss the warped one to the side? These are the ones you toss to the side.
They take the 2x4s that no one wants, repile them up and put a sale sign on them.

I fell for this once... just once.

Hooooo. Tough guy!

Also, reminder to support and find out if you have a local lumber mill around you.

The one in my city sells wood to the public for 1/4 the price of big box home repair stores.

Usually 2x4x8 is around $2.50 in home depot, previous 2020 was around $1.45 in HD.
I don't know what the deal it is!
Mail rebate needs get another $0.50 stamp and time....

$3.25 for me at Home Depot so even Menards sale price of $3 is a better deal short of getting a hundred boards at Home Depot. Of course if I'm getting 100 boards then the Menards rebate would save me $89 so perfectly worth sending in the rebate with a stamp.

I've seen bad Menards lumber but where I'm at, Menards lumber is actually pretty good. Much better than HD. How does lumber quality vary from store to store if they buy in bulk and distribute?

They are incredible. We need more menards
Menards is great for cheap stuff around the house that you don't care about the quality of. Like deck screws, top soil, shims, etc. For anything you want to use for a while, you should get it at Lowe's or HD, otherwise just light your money on fire because Menards basically just sells the cheapest crap from China they can find.

Depends on your store but the lumber at my Menards is decent. Yes, there are some bad ones to comb through. Usually I set aside the bad ones, so that others don't have to go through it. I just saw their lumber truck pull in to deliver new goodies for this discount. Granted, those new ones can still be bad too. I still have lumber from last year. One warped so bad that I left it out in the rain with some weight to fix it. lol

All the box stores source like that. Things like *nice* fixtures and heirloom quality stuff you'll have to buy direct or go to the regional electrical/plumbing supply. For nice boards (furniture quality) you have to find either a local sawmill or woodworking supply store.

Menards lumber sucks. You'll spend 30 mins trying to find 10 boards that aren't trash
HD and Lowes is the same. You want straight lumber at a big box store, start digging.

The problem with Menards is you have to order from the building materials desk, so you commit to a number prior to seeing how bad they are. I rolled the dice and had to filter through 200 to get 40 that could loosely be called "construction grade" (maybe half of those 40 might meet #2 grade).

Lay 24 of them flat + glue them and you'll have a 1.5" thick 4x8 board.

The hardwood at Menards is way better than the other big box stores. The pine boards are eh at Menards, but good stuff is easy enough to find if you dig a bit. The sheet good at HD are definitely superior.

I've gotten my rebate each time I've done it. Over 20 times. Takes a few weeks.

Nah, you can order online from your phone while in the barn. I'll usually first pay for a couple cheap items to get the barcode to drive into the yard, then order the rest after I've already picked and loaded it.

BIG TIME Menards rebate guy here. I cant help but shop there.

#1 yes! the rebate is a store check, but I never noticed expiration date. That said, yea it is more a reward than a rebate. I have never not got the rebate. I have ALSO sent reciepts after the send by date and still was issued the in store rebate check.

#2 Menards stick quailty can be iffy. There will be a lot of loose sticks in the pile. I hate how the yard rules work now.

#3 It has been SOOOOOOOO dam long since I saw a $2 2x4, that I am plannig to get say 10 or so just to have on hand... I think I will find a big cart and shop for the 2x4's in the store rather than take the yard invoice and find crappy wood out there.
