Are these considered accurate?

You can't tell if there is a spike or not with these average unit displays. Is it important to know the average or if there are spikes? I actually ordered at home test and I never received it. This thread reminded me to call them and ask where the ehck is my test kit.

Yes, they are. But be aware that you can't put them in a basement where humidity with kill it. And the company will not replace as they warn about humidity.

I have had this exact unit for a few years and used it at my home and a few relative's homes where we measured very high radon numbers, leading to a few of us getting radon mitigation systems. If you have a basement (and use it for more than just storage) in an area known to have radon, do yourself a favor and get this. The readings are averaged over a day or over a week, which is what you want to know. Anything reading under 2 is good, anything over 4 needs mitigation. In some states, you can't even sell a home if radon levels are too high.
Why is radon important? Long term radon exposure has been highly correlated with lung cancer.

These seem accurate from what I've read but two factors made me go with another brand.

Firstly, these are battery powered only which is baffling for a device that doesn't need to be portable. In fact, it shouldn't be moved frequently. I don't need to be replacing batteries on something that never moves.

Secondly, there is no audible alarm. You have to check it manually on a regular basis. There's not even a visual indicator of high levels, you have to remember what levels are considered high (EPA considers levels above 4 pCi/L actionable) when you check it.

I went with a SafetySiren model. The SafetySiren Pro4 Series is more expensive but it's outlet powered and has an audible alarm.

Interesting google search.

I live in the south and never even knew this was a thing.
