I've had a unit like this for the past 12 years. The big positive, is being able to put a load in to wash and dry before leaving for work (or going to sleep) and having it done by the time I'm back. The negative - it takes 3-5 hours for a load to go through wash and dry. I dont recall this ever being an issue for me, as we dont typically have anything that needs to be washed and dried quickly - but thats something to keep in mind when considering this machine

Do you have a unit with an actual heat pump? Lg and other brands have sold other models that don't use heat pumps. They use a cooling plate powered by water which causes it to take much longer to dry. I have one of those units as well, and i agree its not for everyone cause if you need something dried fast or just cleaned fast its just not going to happen. But the heat pump based units are much faster (wash and dry in 2-3 hours). Slightly slower than a traditional drier . But pretty darn close in my opinion and no need to move the close saves you some time as well(unless you need to take things out of the drier to air dry). The other big change that takes people a bit to get used to that all ventless units have is that they build up humidity in the machine. When you open it up once the cloths is done the cloths will almost feel a bit moist. This is just cause the air in the chamber is a bit humid. But it does confuse people the first time around.

Overall, all-in-one units are amazing in their convenience and efficiency, but they introduce some new quirks that you do need to get used to. I personally don't think i can ever go back to any other type of unit.

I have been using the GE Profile all in one for the last couple of months and it takes about 2 hours for a full load. These newer models use heat pumps to generate hot air. Older models of all in ones used a different technology. Check and see what yours is. May explain why it takes so long.

One can always handwash or take it to the laundramat for just the washing cycle. If the washer works but dryer doesn't, just air dry.

But realistically, the "benefit" of having two separate machines is speed (you can do some things in parallel), and if one does break, you're out $600-$1000, instead of the all-in-one unit at $2000.

I might snag a unit like this when they hit ~$1500, but I've been burned my Samsung's AirDresser where it kinda works similarly (cleans, steams, dries), but the condenser failed a month out of warranty and can no longer dry. Even paid Samsung to look at the unit and they're like "computer says nothing is broken, good luck". I'm waiting for these units to...mature a bit, lol.
Speed doesn't matter. You can put your clothes in right before you go to bed or go to work, and then you can take them out whenever convenient. What matters more is having the convenience to be able to start on a load of laundry right before going to work or going to bed, which a traditional setup doesn't allow you to do because then your clothes smell if you leave it wet overnight.

They must calculate capacities differently in Canada. The 5.0 cu. ft. 300hbx washtower that I bought is called a 5.8 cu. ft there. Just an example. didn't find this unit or the Ge Profile combo unit on their website
Yes you are confused in equating these two, washtower has two drums; a washer and a dryer, and you have to move clothes between - it's basically an integrated stacked machine.

This is a single drum all-in-one heat pump. This is a brand new type and second of it's kind after the GE

How long until this would be the norm? One less appliance but if it breaks then you got nothing lol
I keep a rock down at the steam as a backup.

TO YOU. NOT ME. I don't want to put my clothes in right before bed, conventional or single combo. My washtower is 10 feet from my bed. We decided to cram something in a small closet downstairs rather than get a new set for the normal laundry room upstairs. . .getting older and getting tired of the stairs. 5 kiddos and 6 pets. . .lots of laundry. I can put a load in every 30 minutes. A load that would compliment a 7.4ft dryer, not a 4.8 dryer. So more clothes are able to be washed and dried per load, and each load is twice as fast. But yes I could start a load before leaving for work and it would be done when I got back. That's not going to get half of our laundry done though

If this ever gets down to the $1400 I paid for the washtower, I'll buy and put it upstairs. Then we would have 2 "sets". And could lean on the efficiency of this LG combo when time permits. Guessing that will happen in October. I would rather do this than have 2X the single drum combos like others mention here and on the old GE threads.

When I seen the GE one about month ago, I was like wow. Now more are showing up.

So I did more research on these because I thought these was new, and I found out that Europe have been using these for a while. They have used condenser dryers for generations from what I understand. Heat pump dryers is just something newer to the ventless dryers compared to condenser dryers.

I even read that some countries have made vented dryers illegal to use. I can at least find Switzerland being one of them that did this back in 2012.

I got that LG 300 5.0 washtower (the one with auto dispenser) for same reasons you stated. Controls are in the middle. And I got it into a 35" wide by 42" closet. It's about 4 inches or so shorter than stacking units, which allowed me height wise room to put it on rollers. Which raises it up to more manageable level to change out washer loads
They didn't have those when I got my current LG set. They are just the normal ones that you buy and adapter so they can stack. My main issue is actually front to back and not up and down. The laundry room is actually just the small hallway that leads to the garage. It was made for top loads and not front loads. When you open the door to the washer it hits the wall so you can't open it all the way. Just a very poor design that we didn't think about when we bought the house. Since this washer doesn't have to vent, that would gain me a few inches front to back.

The condenser all-in-one dryers are very slow and basically been rejected by US consumers - they're only in Europe due to regulations basically requiring them (classic Europe legislating inferior products)

In the US this has created a stigma that all-in-one units are terrible performance (because they were..) and the first "good" one has been GE with the large heat pump.

This model looks like it has a smaller heat pump (or at least it doesn't have the bulk at the top that GE has?) but still somehow has 2 hour runtime?

LG makes a ventless washtower, if you want more conventional. Has the same inverter heat pump as this new LG combo. Sadly no auto dispense and smaller at 4.5 on that particular washtower, and not at Costco, or I would have got it instead for the energy savings. I'm sure by next year they'll have a full 5.0 inverter ventless washtower with auto dispense all packaged together. . .if you spend extra for the next Studio model lol. I'm still interested in the this new LG combo. . .but I'm gonna camp out and wait for some great sale and rebate on it to collide. Guessing October. Heck I could put it in the kids bathroom if I wanted to. take the washer to the source lol

The key is to have two which you already have room in a traditional home. That's 2 loads washed and ready overnight or while you're at work. Makes up for the long time it takes, but also no duct cleaning.
Imagine if they were stackable…you could have 4 running at the same time! Hah.

So you'd rather have two machines with double the chances of something breaking. Are you going to really handwash your clothes and use your dryer if the washer breaks?
I can see how this all-in-one can be convenient if you do not have more space or if you don't have a large family. Having separate units mean a 2nd load can be in the wash while the 1st load is drying.

Rich people prob buy 2 of these though.
