Deluxe+State not including e-file for that state is such a scam move intending to deceive anyone not paying attention.

Now that Intuit is requiring people to register the software to an account beginning this filing year, I'll be moving over to this software. Intuit has gone full on EVIL although they were pretty evil even before this. They want to know everything about a person and they reserve the right to sell the information... thus making them a powerful data broker. No thanks Intuit!

Use Freetaxusa it's FREE and will do what you need it to do.

It also allows you to fill out a sch C if you need to for your side hustle. I haven't paid for tax service for years and still file a sch C. I have used Quicken previously to keep track of income and expenses. Reluctant to use them because of them changing to annual fee BS.

I have W2, interest from Bank, gains from stocks, student loan interest (that I do not qualify due my to income), money left over in HSA from my previous employer that I do not use (money is just sitting in there), and current FSA. Not sure why H & R block online forced me to switch from deluxe to premium when I filed online last year. Is there a way to keep it at the deluxe level if I buy the deluxe software?

Non free, FreeTax USA also markets deceptively. They also only say they do not share your tax return information which is not the same as them not selling other information. I want no non-local storage of my tax return and that is always a deciding factor for me. I don't want to have to log on to any site to see my critical information.

Couple other benefits I forget to mention. I can create multiple and even unlimited returns and play with scenarios or let family members do their federal and state. You also get four extra after using one for mine federal efiles and can let family or friends use.

Awww thats sweet you think H&R Block is not storing/sharing your info.
They have been sued several times for doing what you complain about. You know when you eFile they save your info. Wen you update they get info from you as well.

I have been using Free tax usa for several yeas now with no issues. I make multiple returns to test options also with them and still cost nothing if you mail your state return.

Hrblock.com seems to be advertising their free online offering a lot this year. How does anyone know how it compares?

Will deluxe + state still work if I need to file in three states? Will the software allow for that?

I believe it includes only 1 state download. Additional states are usually $39.99 or you can try one of the multiple computer workarounds

I am trying to find the catch with FreeTaxUSA.com, TaxHawk.com, and Express1040.com over paying for federal tax returns

Not likely, but it is a separate part. I'm not sure you need to complete it in order to get the Federal portion done. That said, I'm not sure if there is any part of the Federal forms that mention the state part? I think it is usually the other way around. The state forms usually require input from the Federal forms.

I've been using Cash App Taxes for the last couple of years, but recently started a salaried job. If I did gig work in the past year, had a sign on bonus, and wanted to claim the EV Federal Tax credit, would Cash App Taxes still be okay? Or would something like HR Block or other paid software be the way to go?

If I pay for the additional states up front, does anyone know if I do all of my taxes all at once with all three states included, the income from each, etc, or does the software not understand how to calculate or allow for taxes involving multiple states?

If you buy all the states you should be able to do each state one at a time. In my experience doing 2 states it barely gets it right .. unsure about across 3 states.
