Deluxe+State not including e-file for that state is such a scam move intending to deceive anyone not paying attention.

Now that Intuit is requiring people to register the software to an account beginning this filing year, I'll be moving over to this software. Intuit has gone full on EVIL although they were pretty evil even before this. They want to know everything about a person and they reserve the right to sell the information... thus making them a powerful data broker. No thanks Intuit!

If you buy all the states you should be able to do each state one at a time. In my experience doing 2 states it barely gets it right .. unsure about across 3 states.
Thanks... then that's probably a no-go for me. Oh well. Another year with an accountant most likely. :/

I've been using Cash App Taxes for the last couple of years, but recently started a salaried job. If I did gig work in the past year, had a sign on bonus, and wanted to claim the EV Federal Tax credit, would Cash App Taxes still be okay? Or would something like HR Block or other paid software be the way to go?

Its should work fine. If not try freetaxusa as well.

Does not cost anything to try and if you do not like it you can go back to a pay one.

I think the EV credit is the only one cash app might not do. Check their supported and unsupported forms list. FreeTaxUSA does support all of those things.

Double check H&R also. Some said they didn't support this particular form directly.

Hrblock.com seems to be advertising their free online offering a lot this year. How does anyone know how it compares?
Don't they do that every year and then upsell you once you're in since the truly free part is limited?

Any chance there is a premium without state?
No, but there's a good chance you don't actually need premium anyway. The marketing is confusing (on purpose).

I am trying to find the catch with FreeTaxUSA.com, TaxHawk.com, and Express1040.com over paying for federal tax returns
They make money off state e-file fees, upgrades to deluxe, amendment fees, audit protection, etc. Not really a catch if you ask me.

Cash App is completely free, but doesn't support as many forms or situations.

If you qualify. It's still limited in functionality, has an income limit, and only available in certain states. Hopefully they make it universally available in the future.

I have W2, interest from Bank, gains from stocks, student loan interest (that I do not qualify due my to income), money left over in HSA from my previous employer that I do not use (money is just sitting in there), and current FSA. Not sure why H & R block online forced me to switch from deluxe to premium when I filed online last year. Is there a way to keep it at the deluxe level if I buy the deluxe software?
Yes. The online versions are a ripoff. Everything you need done wuth the Deluxe installed version.

You are correct, Premium and Deluxe do the same forms. They keep it confusing to get the upsell.

Awww thats sweet you think H&R Block is not storing/sharing your info.
They have been sued several times for doing what you complain about. You know when you eFile they save your info. Wen you update they get info from you as well.

I have been using Free tax usa for several yeas now with no issues. I make multiple returns to test options also with them and still cost nothing if you mail your state return.
You fail to mention that just to do state you have to pay $14.99. That is not free. Very few people only need to do a federal return. All that sign up thinking it free based on your advice will find after taking time and effort to get a federal information in when done they have to pony up to get their state taxes done. If is such a good choice, couldn't you do a little truth in advertising versus keep saying things are free when they are not.

Attachment 14871304

I doubt your claim that you can do multiple federals. Are you telling us that you can fill out a federal return for yourself and then the site will let store that one and you can create more for family members or friends? I played with the interface and see absolutely no way to do it unless you create another account.

Are you also saying that when pay for one state they will let you fill out multiple states with someone else's name and information? Again, I see no way to do that on the web interface except by creating a new account and paying again.

Meta did get caught harvesting information from Block and other online tax services. Installed software was not involved and does not have that vulnerability.

That is why I so strongly advise to stay away from online versions no matter who they be from. That is why I so strongly recommend the installed version. I find the web much to insecure for my tax return.

Do you mean how much you can contribute for the year?

The big catch I see with FreetaxUSA is that you cannot fie state without paying.
