Unless you got insanely lucky and they made a price mistake or you meant 45 years ago when you said "in the past."

Companies will often make different models with different features.
This model is a "good" saw while your $30 model is likely "not as good"

I bought the heavy version some years ago when building a shed. I love it, but it is heavy so this is tempting.

'Lightweight' is relative. This thing is really only lightweight compared to other worm drive saws. It's 11.5 lbs. Corded 'sidewinder' saws weigh in around 9-11 lbs, and Dewalt has one that's just under 9, FWIW.

That said, I've wanted a blade-left corded circ for a while, so this is a tempting replacement/upgrade for my Dewalt DWE575SB (the 8.8lb one mentioned above).

The light weight ones are def still really light relative to the regular models. Skillsaw makes a super heavy duty worm drive saw, the magnesium versions def save a ton of weight.

I've had this for a few years and strongly recommend it. Easy to keep a line, and while it is heavier than a sidewinder, the only time that has bothered me was when reaching up to cut a rafter tail.

I used one of these for 15 years and haven't picked it up in the last 5 years since I've gotten my DeWalt 60 volt saw. These things do last forever and sets the standard to what all saws aspire to be though.

I've found the best type of saw to use with 7" abrasive disks to cut steel are the worm drive type. They spin at a speed better for cutting the metal and don't over heat the disk/steel like a basic direct drive inexpensive circular saw would. I'm using an older saw for this type of abusive use.
