1. This is based on the traditional Japanese bento meal of hot soup, rice, main dish (room temp), salad.
2. Just remember hot on the bottom, cold on top.
3. The large container is vacuum insulated so keeps items at their normal temperature for 6 hours.
4. Hot soup (vented lid) goes on the bottom as seen in the video, not like the picture.
5. Salad goes on the top and is completely insulated from the soup.
6. The plastic bases are microwaveable, not the lids. But with Japanese bento you don't need to heat anything... for other styles you can do it without the lids.
7. It says not to put in the dishwasher, but you can if you don't use high heat setting. Otherwise, just soak all the bowls in a plastic tub with soap for a minute, then wash and dry on a rack. Takes just two minutes.
8. The bag is a bit fiddly, so I rarely use it. You only need it if you want to carry with a strap.

The ideal way to use it (per Zojirushi's instructions), is to heat up food separately, fill containers for hot items with hot water while food is warning, then dump out the water and transfer food into the containers. This will pre-warm the containers and they will keep your food warm enough for a solid 6-7 hours if packaged properly.

Also, can I even use a dishwasher with this plastic containers?

BPA free does not mean you can warm those plastic containers in the microwave. It's not a good idea.
