You get what you pay for.

I have these from a previous sale.

The handles and shaft have WAY too much give/bend with them. They're rough and rather unfinished. The tips are poorly ground, especially the 90 degree one. And they rust stupidly easy, sitting next to other stuff that doesn't have a speck of rust on them.

Shoddy is the best word for them. They make Harbor Freight's discount line seem high end. I mean, at least these are cheap. They -probably- will be fine for lighter duty tasks, and if you lose them, you're not out that much.

But you buy cheap, you buy twice.

Milwaukee, Crescent, and Knipex make some solid options. But those are FAR more expensive than this option.
Well surely they are but those are overkill for the DIYer, no?

You asked me what I recommend, and then you sneer at them?

That's gratitude for ya nowadays.

Unless you use tools like these everyday these are just as good as nipex the German brand.
Agreed.

You got me SD. Had a 10% coupon on it and I bit. These are one of those things that I wonder why I'm buying it but one day in the future they will come in handy and it will feel good laugh out loud

For these prices you might as well just get Harbor freight ones which are probably a slightly better quality and just get the ones you want/need. HF also offers 25-30% off coupons all the time on cheaper items under $10.

Sneer? I appreciate your suggestion but I'm inquiring further about potential budget offerings that may be more steered toward home owners, not professionals

I can confirm that the quality of these is highly YMMV. Mine arrived pre-rusted and there is about a 1/8" gap on the jaws while closed on 2 out of the 3 pliers. Total junk IMHO and returning...

The set I received had the same problem with gaps in the jaws. Very poor quality so I requested a return/refund.

No rust on my set. The jaws on the two curved pliers line up perfectly and have no gap. The straight pliers line up but have a 1/16" gap. I'm curious as to what Harbor Freights would have looked like.

It looks like AmazonBasic's version is the same as this one rebranded (currently at $14 for the set of 3): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C6XN5X1K

No gap at the tips here. There is a slight gap further back but it's minimal, just enough to let light through - can't imagine it affecting the performance. No rust seen, either.

What's annoying is there is apparent grease on the metal parts, and not just at the hinge. I wiped them off best I could and had to wrap them for storage so grease doesn't get all over my tool bag and adjacent items.
