Just no Dolby vision support... Sigh I have the UB820 for that reason, but it's $400. This is a good deal for what it is ☺️
I have the ub820, the ub9000, and an older LG player that I got for around $125 in a bb bundle.

This player is a very good deal for what it is. Players in this price range may have issues playing bd100 discs (triple layers).

Here's a Sony with Dolby Vision for $159. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sony-U...hbdg=L1600
Problem with that model is you have to manually engage dolby vision for each dics - totaly bonkers.

Can anybody explain what to look for in a Blu-ray player now? Mine is 15 years old and I stopped using it since I started streaming services. I want to start using it again because I'm building a dedicated theater room, but I didn't think my old Blu-ray player would be outdated.
You need a 4K UHD BR player. It's a completely different format than standard blu ray. Depending on your TV, you want one with Dolby Vision for HDR movies. Sony and Panasonic are the only manufacturers left in this space. Pick one.

Or you can just leave DV on and it's fine...

I've never had an issue playing a 4K HDR non-DV disc with DV enabled on my X700M.

What about a PS5? That plays them in HDR, right?

I have this for like 2 years and enabled DV and that's it. Not sure what's going on with other people though.

Yes you can see you can hear and you know when you "buy something " you want to OWN it, not lease it from a streaming service that will soon go bankrupt.

That makes everything artificial dolby vision.
