Few things to note about these:

They don't require the laptop have DP alt mode on the USB-C connector, which can be a plus, but this means the displays are using DisplayLink which is an abstraction layer built up on USB, and uses the CPU and GPU to render these displays in software. Which if your system is decently powerful and has a dedicated GPU, isn't really a huge issue, but if it has only CPU integrated graphics, DisplayLink performance can be quire terrible under certain conditions, like doing anything that's tasking the GPU with even something as "simple" as YouTube playback, and gaming is out of the question.

They're generally fine for most office uses, but gaming is not going to be a fun experience and if you have no dedicated GPU, even watching videos can lead to the display becoming a stuttering mess.

DisplayLink is useful, but it's not a replacement for a true display connection, like docks that connect over DisplayPort alt mode. But if your laptop doesn't have DP Alt Mode, this is the only way you're going to get a docking station, so it does have some uses.

Just a heads up, this is a displaylink dock.

Probably fine for most users and office use. Just be aware it will require additional drivers to output video to an external monitor, and you will not be able to drive dedicated GPU graphics to an external monitor with this dock if that is something you need.

Wow, what a coincidence. Was just looking for a dual screen USB C dock with PD and a 100W USB C power adapter. $20 for both sounds like a good deal. Being a dock instead of a dongle is a plus! My current chain of USB C dongle + USB A hub + USB C power adapter is kind of janky.

Hope it works with the ROG Ally, $20 is worth the risk.

Bought 2 as backups. For $20, it's a great deal. Probably not worth $300, but still something comparable from a reliable brand would be $100.

As has been mentioned this thing is using DisplayLink rather than native DisplayPort alt mode, which isn't (well) supported on Linux and probably most appliance-like things.

There's a reason it's $20. A good deal if you don't mind its limitations, but don't be misled by that inflated MSRP.

…Is NOT worth risk. Cheap power delivery where people have fried MBs and ports tells me there is possible fluctuating PD. I would not plug this into my pricey laptops. No way. Good luck on the gamble.

Anything that's no longer the currently favored method of doing something is called "legacy" in IT circles. Just read it as "older," because that's all it means. In this case they mean laptops that don't charge via the USB-C port. My last laptop had a USB-C port, but wouldn't charge from it because it was so new then that the terms "PD" and "Gen 1" didn't exist in relation to it yet. Charging via the barrel plug would've been much faster even if it could.
