Few things to note about these:

They don't require the laptop have DP alt mode on the USB-C connector, which can be a plus, but this means the displays are using DisplayLink which is an abstraction layer built up on USB, and uses the CPU and GPU to render these displays in software. Which if your system is decently powerful and has a dedicated GPU, isn't really a huge issue, but if it has only CPU integrated graphics, DisplayLink performance can be quire terrible under certain conditions, like doing anything that's tasking the GPU with even something as "simple" as YouTube playback, and gaming is out of the question.

They're generally fine for most office uses, but gaming is not going to be a fun experience and if you have no dedicated GPU, even watching videos can lead to the display becoming a stuttering mess.

DisplayLink is useful, but it's not a replacement for a true display connection, like docks that connect over DisplayPort alt mode. But if your laptop doesn't have DP Alt Mode, this is the only way you're going to get a docking station, so it does have some uses.

If you have WalMart GC to burn, they have it also for $20, the seller being HP

Just a heads up, this is a displaylink dock.

Probably fine for most users and office use. Just be aware it will require additional drivers to output video to an external monitor, and you will not be able to drive dedicated GPU graphics to an external monitor with this dock if that is something you need.

Maybe I'm stupid but how does the power get from the dock to my laptop? I imagine usb-c but I don't see that cord pictured. If it is pictured and is the usb-c with the prongs on either side...I don't have places for the prongs to go on my laptop.
Ignore me

Read the reviews…
I see this getting downvoted hard but did anyone read the recent reviews? *if you TD because rather than just saying there are sketch reviews the comment just said read them lol...fair enough.
sorting by most recent is one of the tools I use to wade through the thousands of reviews. it's not a perfect system. but when the recent reviews are all over the place...it seems odd.
Multiple posts saying this charger fried their laptop...that's troubling. hard to gauge how many reviews are for which variant- an issue Amazon doesn't seem to care about. but if any variant is frying devices that concerns me.

Given-
Overall review score is pretty good. It's a name brand. It's stupid cheap for what you're getting. the power adapter alone is worth more than this

The round "barrel" connector is what I'm guessing you're referring to when you say "prong." That goes from the power supply brick to the dock. There's a separate USB-C cable that goes from the dock to the laptop - that cable has screws on one end to keep it securely connected to the dock (and may also be the one confusing you).

I read two reviews in question and they were for a different model. Same issue?, who knows.

Should be just needing to install DisplayLink driver. That is all that was needed for our office running these on Macs.
Thanks I appreciate it!

The USB-C cable with screws on one end has USB-A on the other end in the pictures. That's what's confusing me, and probably johnec4. There is no USB-C to USB-C cable in the photos (though one is mentioned in the product specs).

Thanks for the tip. Ordered at Walmart. Easier in store returns. Returning to HP will most likely be a nightmare

There are multiple models mixed in - something that is a real PITA about Amazon reviews. That appears to be for a different model.

So this is part of what you want, but the main thing you'd be looking for is a KVM.

For windows, Will it affect performance? Was thinking of picking it up for a ROG ally
I haven't *personally* tried it but in general using something like this is going to increase CPU utilization and latency when compared to a dock that has proper hardware to do DP alt mode.

Whether you will notice and whether you're going to care, now that I couldn't say.

…Is NOT worth risk. Cheap power delivery where people have fried MBs and ports tells me there is possible fluctuating PD. I would not plug this into my pricey laptops. No way. Good luck on the gamble.
You haven't seen my current setup. LOL

Targus is a much more reputable name than what I'm current using in my janky setup. I've used Targus power bricks, surge protectors, even travel mice, they have a good track record with me.

So I'm upgrading from questionable to cheap. laugh out loud

I don't think you can return it in store if it's shipped and sold by HP. Also Google HP cashback to get 4%.

Edit: looks like Walmart does allow returns within 30 days in store.

In for 1 at this price, but now that it's already ordered, I'll ask questions.

Anyone know if/how this works with Samsung Dex? I have an S22 Ultra and a portable monitor. What can I do with this?
Yes. It should natively
