Thanks, OP - I had ordered one last week; contacted Monoprice and they issued a refund for the difference. Cheers!

I assume you don't bring it down while fireplace is in use or you get a crispy TV.

Yes that is correct!!! Do not turn the fireplace on when the TV is pulled down. I bought this a month ago and it was the best $200 investment I made.

One really important thing to note is that the instructions mentions to mount 12" higher than the mantle, however when I did that my TV touches the ceiling so I bought the mount all the way down and now it is perfect and lowers the TV about 20" below the mantle which is nice because it was really high prior. Saves my neck of having to look upwards.

I had the over the mantle tv back in the plasma days. One of the stupidest ideas to come down the pike. It's looks like your decor is stuck in the early 20's and even if you can drop it down while viewing, it still uncomfortable looking up at a tv for hours. Who is gonna be lifting their tv up and down every day? Dumb.

Ive had this for about 2 years now. Bought it because all my tv connections were above the fireplace. It's nice bringing the TV with a press of a button. I plan on painting the fireplace wall black to hide the mount a little more since it shows at the lowest setting. But I love the mount. Perfect for those in a similar situation.

Had a manual mantle mount for 5 years and it was great, motorized would've been even better!

We got mounts that were essentially flat bars that I put between the TV and the mount that put the soundbar under the TV so it would go up and down with the TV.

That sounds excellent. If there were photos or links to those mounts, that would be great
