I've been avoiding the d17s, but this might be too good to pass, right? D17s are $700 (they were $1500 not long ago and were way more when they first came out), the sub is over $400, the center is over $400, and the surrounds are over $400 if you choose that path for $1500.

Are there any trustworthy reviews on the d17s? The only thing I've heard is they take more power to push

Haven't seen any reviews on the D17's but look at audioholics and sound & vision reviews for the D15's. They both gave them top marks. The d17's are slightly more sensitive than the D15's, which I'm powering with no problem from a denon x3800.

I have a Definitive Technology CS-9080 center/powered sub. It has been an excellent addition to my media room. My room configuration didn't really allow for a sub unless I built one in the wall. I found this puppy and it is a perfect. Pairs well with my Klipsch built ins.

DT makes some excellent speakers, they are a bit pricy, but you get what you pay for. With that being said, This looks like an excellent value

I have the denon x3800 as well. I thought it took me forever to decide on a receiver and find a good deal. The speaker game is just as crazy. The reviews are all over the place. Not sure i can trust them more than our politicians.

Lol. I trust reviewers that listen AND measure. Audioholics doesn't seem to pull punches. Neither does Erin at Erin's audio corner.
While I'm happy to listen to the opinions of reviewers that only "listen", the human brain is as tricky as it is complicated. Its "perceptions" can't be trusted 100%. Too much built in preference and bias.

I like erins reviews, but he usually detours me when i find something i might like. The aurora 300s i think were one. The fact there are reviews for everything other than d17 is a bit fishy. They are fraction of the price that they were last year.

I don't know. Maybe they thought the smaller, cheaper D15's were gonna be the more popular tower. The D17's are too big for me, but I know ppl like those really big towers. I know I do trust James Larson's highly positive review at audioholics. He's a serious AV nerd that tells it like it is 👍🏼

Oh. Here's some random D17 review I found from a couple years ago when they were $1400 EACH! This guy obviously loves them! Lol. He even has one of Erin's videos playing on the tv in one of his pics 🤣

I've been looking to get the 9080 center to use with my D17s any reliability issues. How's the tambre the D17 are fairly neautral so wondering if it will be an on match? Thanks for any info!

Not surprising you feel that way especially if you have listened and liked the product.

If you think about it, status and measurements are one of thee biggest bias there is.
If one believes some "expert" listens and then provides measurements that says it defines what he heard will ACTUALLY tell anyone how it will sound to them in their home, that is a HUGE bias!

I often disagree with these experts and their measurements after listening myself.
It's not surprising to me since we are talking about two different locations/environments and two different preferences for starters.

Nope. These are totally different design from most def tech speakers. and those are passive radiators on the sides, not subwoofers like other def tech speakers.
