My two cents. Booked my family of 4 on spirit to Cancun last week. Flight was cancelled the night before. No explanation whatsoever. Next flight out with them was fully booked too, so we had to pay $$$ to book with another carrier same day. Still haven't even gotten our refunds yet.

Spirit is great when everything goes right. But when things go wrong as they inevitably do, you're farked.

next time just add the bag via the app. you can do that last minute, even once you've already checked in. it's cheaper.

Looks like Frontier in Atlanta is also matching some of the dates in addition to going beyond March 6.

Also Pro Tip: If you're able to purchase Spirit or Frontier tickets at the airport they will waive the online Passenger Usage Fee. It can vary per flight but it's usually $22 each ticket and per segment/layover.

So for example I had a flight from Atlanta to Seattle for $74. There was a layover in Las Vegas so that took an additional $22 off on top of the standard airport discount. In total I paid about $60 roundtrip.

Flown spirit ONCE in my life, departure flight the plane smelled like gas and we were told one of the engines had an issue but the flight would be ok. Flight back was delayed like 5 hours due to plane issues, when it finally got there they announced they "had no auxiliary power" whatever that means but that they would have to tow the plane then turn the engine on when they had speed, the whole time during take off the left side of the plane sounded legit like when a car can't start and you keep cranking it. Anyway they gave everyone a $50 voucher because of the inconvenience. Dare I try again?

I do not recommend doing this. As I have been screwed over by spirit by this same thing. At the airline it cost more to check in the bags. When I went online they denied my credit due to "unfortunate error, please try again." Even with multiple different credit cards. Maybe they read my data and saw my location at the airport and their website purposefully blocked me, idk. But either way, this is just one of the laundry list of issues flying with spirit. I will never fly Spirit, ever. Even if the ticket cost is more than double. I'd rather fly with pigeons strapped to my chest than this useless company.
I doubt they were targeting you - their site and app just suck.

Went last summer and had no issues. Stayed on a resort though.
I went 2 summers ago and had no issues. Didn't stay at a resort and I drove myself around. Actually now that I think of it, the rental car company tried scamming me but I was stubborn enough that it turned into only a small scam.

This is by far the biggest risk of any of the discount carriers at this bottom pricing tier unfortunately. Depends a lot on the brand and location how likely it is but you definitely want to have a contingency plan and not fly "just in time" to an expensive event/stay on them.
The contingency plan is not using Spirit

Spirit > Frontier
I am not sure about Spirit but no more Frontier for me. I flied with them round trip to Cancun last year. The delay out of SFO caused us to missed the second leg of our flight. Ended up sleeping at the airport overnight in Orlando. Another big delay on the way back but luckily we managed to catch our transfer flight. Their counter staff refused to answer a simple question about my ticket unless I pay extra for the service. I will try to stay away from these discount airlines except for Zipair (owned by Japan Air).

sorry. i'm not a huge fan of Spirit, but i had no issues adding bags via the app at the airport. i think you are allowed to do it up to 1 hour before boarding.
