This is one of those.. when you need it, you'll be glad you grabbed it. I got both the 1/4 and 3/8 back when they dropped down a while back and I'm considering getting another of each. Obviously you aren't rebuilding a transmission with these, but for those hard to reach spots they're golden

As a mechanic who's had this for over 6 years now, I can tell you that I have never found a good use for this. Really regret spending money on it cause I know I'll never have a use for it.

I researched these a fair bit on a previous posting. After watching YouTube video of a tear down, I passed as it the GearWrench has poor quality inernals. It's just a rebranded tool.

I ended up purchasing a SK Tools 49270 for $20 off eBay. Doesn't gimbal, but otherwise way better built with metal internals, and rebuild kits are available and have been for decades.

What is the point of these, just a fancy no-torque thumb ratchet?

You can palm these. They're not breaker bars, no; they're more than adequate for dealing with nylocs.

How would these compare vs. the PowerBuilt design?

The Powerbilts do not gimble - they are fixed axial.

what is really the point if you can't use them to break a nut loose or tighten it to proper force? At that point you are just running the faster up or down it's threads which your fingers will take less space to do with using just a low profile socket?

Damn, I don't have an immediate need for these but... I kinda want to pick them up anyway...

Grabbed both. Can't think of an immediate use, but this seems like one of those tools you don't get much use out of but when you need it you're glad you do.

I seldomly used these, and I've yet to encounter a situation where my stubby flex head ratchet wasn't more useful, or simply just used a socket to help start/remove. However I can see it being useful if you have arthritic hands/fingers—making it useful in certain tight areas.

I've repaired a lot of appliances in which it is not uncommon to find a bolt that is just a bit too tight for a nutdriver but can get removed with one of these. I haven't done much under dash work lately, but I imagine that is another place where this could be helpful.

In my research, the SK Tools 49270 is far superior. This GearWrench one is a cheap rebranded item with some plastic internals.

The PowerBuilt has a ratcheting bit holder that does not gimbal.

Small one might be good with a torx bit or screwdriver bit for putting together furniture or something, so guess I'll grab it.

I doubt there will ever be much a time I find his better than a ratchet or impact.

Its more comon for something to be really close to a wall and hard to get for me and in that case these wont help, they take just as much space as anything else.
