Does anyone known when the GEN 2 version of this is coming out?

For the longest time this monitor was not capable of firmware updates. But according to this it is:

Sounds like you need an Nvidia's graphics card with the latest firmware update to allow the monitor to be upgraded.

The AW3423DWF model has always been capable of firmware updates by end users. I bet there are a lot of aw3423dw users who don't know this is possible.

I would wait for Gen 2. The burn-in issue after a couple years of use is real. Gorgeous monitor with top notch quality. It just won't last long.

A couple of things. What has gen 2 implemented that gen 1 doesn't have in terms of burn-in mitigation? I have the AW3423DWF model and it asks me to do a manual pixel refresh every 4 hours. So we know that model has technology to prevent burn-in. What has gen 2 added? OLED screens have been out for many many years. I'm not aware of the panel technology changing? Or is this you just HOPING that something has changed while you don't own one of these panels and aren't aware of the pixel refresh mitigation that already exists?

Why is this getting voted down so much? The gsync model is rarely this cheap. I know there is the new gen, but not everyone wants a 4K screen and there isn't even a 34 inch yet.

What am I missing here?

I bought this almost a year ago from B&H for $805 and I love it. If you want this specific screen size/aspect ratio, the Freesync version is a better deal at $800 though. Alienware did a great job of improving both models in 2023 (fixing the DWF's HDR and figuring out how to do firmware updates on the DW) so whichever is cheaper is the better option. Acer X27U for $600 is a good value. The brand new 27 inch Alienware just launched at $900, and has a better panel (but not ultrawide of course). And then for the crazier screens, there are the 49 inch Ultrawides, and the $1,200 4K Alienware. I can understand why the price hasn't gone down over the last year because it's still one of the best options, but $800 or less is the right price for this.

The 49" Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC) is $1,053 with EDU discount on Samsung's site and the G85SB (same panel as this Alienware) is $750. Much better options.
