I believe the main difference between the two is the rears. This one doesn't have upfiring speakers on the rears and the rears need to be wired to the receiver (the 990c they're wireless and just need to be plugged into power). I have the 990C and it's great- haven't had this one though so can't compare.

Well to be fair other designs like enabled modules don't really represent what is capable either.

The main issue is most haven't ever actually listened to a well implemented Atmos system in a home.
So they have no good reference to go by.

As long as people believe they are getting their moneys worth is all that matters.

It'll be a sad day if Samsung ever discontinues the EDU/EPP program. I have gotten many great deals through it.

Not sure what that means but bring it on. The quality of electronics I've gotten from Samsung for the price using EPP/EDU would be unachievable with even the budget Chinese brands. If you're upset that you don't qualify for EPP or EDU, I understand. Just say it though. 🤷

Maybe I'm dense, but I'm still genuinely unable to understand what you're saying. To be fair, I'm getting over covid at the moment, so maybe that's why. But yes, I will continue to enjoy the EPP. Thanks!

Great system for the price. My Vizio 5.1 was going out so purchased this last August ('23) at around the same price, to pair with my 85" Samsung QLED (2021). Punchy sub, great range on the front even though the bar isn't as wide as the 990 or as my TV. I've never used rears with up-firing speakers so can't compare, but these rears do the job well. Honestly the only downside was the speaker wire used to connect to the wireless box was almost too short for our setup, but we managed to make it work.

My advice with this soundbar:
-Make sure to install the Samsung Smarthings app to get easier setup access
-Turn Off SpaceFit Sound (seemed to make the levels weird)
-Turn On Active Voice Amplifier
-If using a Samsung TV - turn OFF Q-Symphony (this tries to sub the TV speakers for satellites, but since you have rears here, it creates a weird echo effect in a lot of media)

just fyi this one is only .2 for the dolby atmos feature. Meaning there's no upfiring dolby atmos for the rear speakers.

Just a friendly warning from someone who bought this system. The rear speakers are physically tiny and underpowered. I paid $475 And ended up sending this set back.

Some people are fine with it and that's OK. But many are not and end up returning. I would highly recommend researching some previous threads and possibly some reddit posts before buying. If you're expecting much out of the rear speakers there's a high probability you won't be happy with this purchase...
