In case anyone is interested, this is a UHD friendly drive, and with a firmware downgrade it can read 4K discs.

For people like myself that are tired of paying for too many streaming services but like the convenience of opening an app to play my media, I use this drive to rip my DVDs, Blu Rays, and UHD Blu ray and store the media on a NAS to watch on JellyFin.

So to use this on Win10 / 11, is it plug and play, or do I need a specific driver?

My understanding was that the installing this as is, Win 10 would not recognize the drive.

Any specifics would be appreciated before I pull the trigger. All I have found online are old posts complaining that after upgrading to Win10 / 11, their drive became unrecognizable by windows.

Thanks again and sorry to bug you - it is just you are the only person I have heard from saying that they have this working on Win10 and ripping BR and UHD.

Circling back on this. If you want the whole kit and kaboodle, I think there are some programs that allow you to create an ISO file (entire contents and menus included)… and some hardware that supports ISO playback… but it seems to be harder to find.

I used to have a lot of burned disks but they started taking up so much space. I gave them to my friend. I later bought an external drive and it has sat unused ever since I bought it. Think I paid $50 and it's an ASUS blue ray burner. Lots of good info and help here.

So guys in December I bought a new stock desktop PC. CyberPowerPc brand. It was a $900 computer with a mid-size case that doesn't appear to have any front open 3.5" drive bays. I guess my only options are to buy an external burner drive or buy this one w/ an adapter to make it USB and lay it on top of the case.

I just searched Amazon and it appears that next cheapest brand-name burner cost $70 and up so this appears to be a great deal even if it's just a few $$$ off.

That's how I used to do it. Just an ISO file, and then mount it on PC as if it was coming from an optical drive. The olden days of Daemon Tools. I'm assuming that is still around.

CloneCD is used for mounting nowadays.
