PSA: Please never buy a Samsung fridge. Our ice maker is a permanent solid brick of ice taking up space at the top. Also the electronics stop sensing the temperature correctly after a while, and the only way the fridge stays cold is that I have it on a timer plug to "reboot" it every two hours. Horrible appliance.

Yep. Samsung is hot garbage. Literally. Mine died after less than 5 years. Too much tech. When they work, they're great. Too bad they don't last. I also bought the Frigidaire equivalent of this Maytag. Same just sleek handles and not fingerprint proof. That is a must btw. Mine always looks terrible. So, yeah this is a good deal.
Our 20 year old Whirlpool from 2004 is still doing well. No issues with ice maker or anything else, knock on wood. And this is model is what builders included at the time, so I have been surprised to see it last nice and long.
My whirlpool from 4 years ago, ice maker issues, 2 repair visits for that maybe 3 cooling issues 2 visits, door hinge just busted, another visit. Junk
Our kitchenaid 42" wide from 2007 recently had the main board replaced for $600, was better than paying another $12k for a new one if you can even find them anymore, hard to find really large ones now.
This is rated worse for reliability than a GE French door by Consumer Reports, just FYI. It's just "ok".
GE/Amana make the most reliable side by sides.

Samsung fixes the icemaker for free if you call them. Your cooling problem is user error, not the appliance.

Sorry but you are completely wrong.
My icemaker cannot be fixed. There is an entire Facebook group dedicated to problems with these refrigerators (https://www.facebook.com/groups/6...95394259). I got nowhere with Samsung. The only success people are having is through the New Jersey BBB, and it is a months-long battle to get a resolution.
User error? No. A refrigerator that stops cooling is defective. The repair person says the board is defective but I am not going to buy a new board for this piece of garbage.

On the contrary it's easier than ever. PLENTY

Agreed. I also have a freezer in my garage so the "big items" downside of them is irrelevant in my house.
