Switches are so cheap, not sure why this is a concern.

I would be more interested in these if at least one of them had 3 Ethernet ports.

It's TP Link, so these are probably EOL already in terms of support.

We've bought these from Walmart for $50 3 years ago. Have been rock solid on ethernet backhaul with ATT fiber 300mb. Get close to 300mb in every corner of our home with 4 of them in 6000 square ft. We haven't had to power cycle or mess with them once. Had an Amplifi HD system before and that had constant problems

I have this exact model for 2 years now, ran an ethernet backhaul between the two with a switch on one, no problem so far.

I learned recently that the OnHub's can be flashed to DDWRT with some work. Quite a few steps but might be worth the trouble.

Thanks for the info, definitely looking into this for the two OnHubs I shelved.

I havent had time to monkey around aside from opening up my asus and setting it to dev mode, but hopefully it's straightforward enough

I currently only have a traditional router and did not know whether switches can be used with mesh devices, if they would go between my modem and mesh device, whether there are any disadvantages to using a switch, or what specs to look for. None of these things would be issues for me if these TP Link devices had 3 ports instead of only 2.

We've had these for 3 years and very happy with them. They also have the built in AV.

I recently purchased the x55 3 pack. They had them on refurb through amazon for $139.99. If im in the room with the router im getting 945mbs on wifi just through the base. If i move out to the kitchen it drops to around 150mbs. When i add a second node (no backhaul) my kitchen speed increases to ~550-675mbs. I also tried linking the 3rd to a detached garage roughly 150ft away (no backhaul). It connects at a blazing 37mbs haha.
Ive only had the system deployed for 2 weeks, setup was a breeze, good wifi speeds, intuitive software but some features locked behind paywall. I prefer ASUS+merlin software when it comes to routers but figured id give these a whirl.
