I echo the CPA's note - TT sucks and Intuit is a horrible company. TT has been slapped around by the government repeatedly for misleading marketing and other issues.
And, I agree, please do not support Intuit/TurboTax. They lobbied heavily against IRS streamlining tax filing and providing a free filing option directly. They are the reason people have to pay 3rd party providers (like Intuit, H&R Block etc) to file their taxes. Corporate greed at its finest. When will lobbying go away? Regular people cannot compete against these corps and the big money they throw into lobbying.

I do my taxes in both turbo tax and cash app to make sure totals match up within a dollar (since Turbo tax catches some situations and tax cuts better) then submit for free with cash app once satisfied.
turbo tax only makes you pay when ready to submit or preview forms. it shows your obligations, etc for free.
My understanding is that you cannot view your tax forms as well.
How do you do your taxes in TurboTax (without submitting) for free?

Not if you use online version which is free to fill in all your detail and give you total taxable income, what you paid, and what you are owed back/owe
I just linked my CK and Intuit accounts, entered some info.
There is a price preview button that shows exactly how much you will pay, in my case its $0.
Is there anything else needed to lock in the price you think?

The only thing holding me back onto TT or HRBlock is because I cannot enter 100's of these items, cost basis, profit, loss, long term, short term basis, etc. manually. I would ditch any of these behemoths if the free ones could connect to the brokerage and banks.
Sorry, I have been doing my taxes with a CPA for long time. Thought of saving some money this year by using online service as my tax situation is simple.
1. More powerful (Deluxe desktop does pretty much everything)
2. Data privacy - your data stays local only, not in the cloud
3. Ability to e-file 5 federal returns included, plus essentially unlimited printed returns
4. Ability to play "what if" games since you can run through multiple returns
As for other online options, compared to FreeTaxUSA or Cash App Taxes, TurboTax and H&R Block (online OR desktop) support importing forms from brokerages and banks, which can save some time and reduce the risk of transcription errors.
If you're taxes are simple, no need to go to a CPA. The hardest part in my opinion is just gathering up all the forms, which you have to do with a CPA anyway.
I'm going to try that this year.
