I ended up buying a "like new" open box version 2 for $60 instead of this one.

Having a tough time figuring out the actual differences other than the physical difference of a matte black end on v1 versus the V2 having a glossy end.

Either way.... So far, so good. The app is extremely refined and seems accurate.

One thing not mentioned accurately and the main reason I think people get units that don't work is the base station cradle. The cradle is actually the hub that communicates with your phone. The thermometer sends data to the cradle using a low power signal and so you must have the cradle within 5 feet of the thermometer. Then the cradle sends a more powerful data update to your phone and that's where the cradle can be 160 feet away (line of sight). I think some folks are storing the cradle away from the thermometer not understanding it's the hub, middleman to the entire product functioning.
