Buy something like this so it can be mount on the rear view mirror:

Buy something like this https://www.amazon.com/iSaddle-Do...r=8-9&th=1 so you can attach this between the dash cam and then rear view mirror mount. What you want is a square adhesive on one end and a ball on the other.
Take off the top plastic cover off the GPS unit and align the 2nd item with the adhesive side mount on it.
Drill 4 holes through the adhesive side mount and the top cover of the GPS unit.
Get 4 very short screws that is long enough to screw into the adhesive mount and the plastic cover of the GPS unit without touching the GPS hardware.
Assemble everything back and mount it to the rear view mirror.
Thanks for sharing and glad that it worked for you. However, mounting anything to rear view mirror has its own risk. Long term, because of the persistent weight that the mirror will hold and vibrations/jerks, it may get damaged. Or worse, break and come out which is a much riskier option especially with newer cars with collision detection systems etc also integrated with or next to the rear view mirror unit, replacement costs are not worth the risk.
Personally, I would not take that chance but I get your point and intention to help. Thanks a lot.
Anyone else have thoughts? Would 229 pro with better resolution improve night time readability of plates?
Just buy another one and return the old one. If it honestly broke on its own then you should be morally fine with this as the company should have given you a better product.

Worth $175 for prevention of such a headache. It's replacing my A119 Pro that I bought for insane deal of $65 (price never came again)
This actually won't fly in insurance court. If you hit someone in the rear it's very hard to prove (even with dashcam) that it was their fault. At best 50/50
There's serial numbers tracked on each one
A friend of mine has returned items to Amazon, Best Buy, and Costco despite the items having serial numbers and never had an issue. Most of these places don't pay their workers enough to actually care. Will never know unless you try. If they reject the return then I would just say you got it mixed up and return the "right" one
