I think the point is that if the companies don't make money on the games they spend money to develop, then eventually they'll stop making them. Companies need to be profitable to stay in business.

A gaming PC? Maybe Odin 2 or something up there. I haven't heard good things about Xbox emulation on ARM.

The Retropocket 4 pro is the cheapest that can get that will run PS2 and Gamecube roms no problem. You are looking at a $200 price tag. There are cheaper handhelds but they will emulate GC/PS2 but will struggle for many. If you want xbox, get a steam deck.

I'm afraid not.
The R36s is the more capable of the two (besides not having HDMI output like the RG35XX); but even the R36S isn't recommended as ideal for PSP or Dreamcast. You might get a *very* limited # of titles to run but that's more of the exception and not the rule.

This device is mainly to do PS1 and prior gen systems well. Some of the N64 library runs playable on the RK3326 in this machine, but don't expect every game in that library to run well. Same for Nintendo DS.
The silver lining is that we're still talking about being able to play A LOT of games (with regards to the systems it can play very well) on these budget devices.

I'd look into a device equipped with an RK3566 at minimum for closer to a 50% range of playable Dreamcast and PSP games; but not the entire library of either. Or step up higher to the T610-equipped $90 Retroid Pocket 2S or any of several T618-equipped device (like the $125 Retetroid Pocket 3+) for more solid out-of-the-box Dreamcast/PSP support.

Great price if you can take advantage of the new customer coupon. I see it's been hoving around $31-$35 range from the same store under SuperDeals. Since it's currently CNY, the warehouse likely won't be shipping anything out for the next week or so out of PRC. When I ordered this R36S a few weeks ago, I received it in less than 2 weeks. Cutesliving Store is apparently operated directly by AliExpress so things ship faster.

As for the hardware, the R36S is pretty fun and the screen is very nice. It supports official Pico-8 and can run Fake-8. The shoulder buttons are very stiff and heavy tactile clicky. The dpad and buttons are a bit stiffer than the Anbernic OG RG35XX. The analog sticks are directly from the Switch joycons and work pretty well for supported games. There is a spot to add a <1030 rumble motor on the mainboard.

if anyone finds a device that fits their wishlist, but the screen seems a bit small for their aging eyes...I've found a pair of reading glasses makes all the difference

I wish they would put the 405M on sale.

It's amazing how affordable cheap these retro handhelds are. Amazing value...

I bought a Lenovo Legion Go recently though and that can handle extreme emulations... These are still amazing for playstation 1 and under.
