Product Name: | Milwaukee M18 FUEL GEN-3 18V Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 3/8 in. Compact Impact Wrench with Friction Ring (Tool-Only) |
Product Description: | The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 3/8 in. Compact Impact Wrench with Friction Ring is the most compact in its class, delivering users the most access in tight spaces, up to 250 ft./lbs. of nut-busting torque, and maximum workspace visibility. This battery-powered impact wrench measures only 4.8 in. L with a POWERSTATE Brushless motor to provide the power to remove stubborn fasteners, even in confined spaces. The Milwaukee 3/8 in. impact wrench has tri-LEDs that surround the anvil to deliver users brighter light with fewer shadows. 4-Mode DRIVE CONTROL offers greater precision with a range of pre-set RPM and IPM levels, selectable from a single button on the tool. By selecting Mode 4, AUTO SHUT-OFF control applies no more than 20 ft./lbs. of torque for hand-tight fastening applications to prevent overtightening. Mode 4 also features Bolt Removal Control delivers full torque output, then decreases RPMs once the bolt is loosened to prevent fastener drops. REDLINK PLUS Intelligence electronics make these controls possible while ensuring maximum performance, protecting the tool against overloads, over-heating, and over-discharge. The M18 REDLITHIUM battery pack (not included) fits M18 cordless tools, delivering more work per charge and more work over the life of the pack. |

Exactly how that works
If you already have the stubby, I think you'd want to skip the compact one and go straight to the mid torque one wouldn't you?

For sure
If you want to cover everything above sedan lug nuts (which is about where the compacts stop being useful), you'll want either the ~650 ft-lb M18 mid torque or the ~1100 ft-lb high torque if you might ever work on construction/agricultural equipment.
Yes. Not enough torque advantage with this vs the stubby to warrant it.
The mid torque is great once the m12 runs out of oomph though.

is this powerful enough for lug nuts?
Which one ? Looks like the one for $249 is slide switch and 27,000 rpm and only takes 2" wheels, while the $299 one is beefier paddle switch that spins a slower 20,000 rpm but takes both 2" and 3" wheels…
I have the m12 right angle die grinder and would love to top off the tool selection with a more powerful straight die grinder in M18… decisions 🤔
