So I was into Transformers as a kid in the 80's, and I've also been into Weird Al since roughly the same time... yet I've never seen this movie. Does it hold up? Will I enjoy it more than the Megan Fox fanservice reboot?

Yes it holds up. Will you enjoy it more? That's comparing apples to really nice oranges.
I keep on hoping they would animate and add in the deleted scenes during one of these anniversary releases.. a fan has been working on them though (YouTube it)

YES it holds up. Incredible movie. Hard to believe this is 35 years old.
I made the mistake of watching this as a special release in the theaters a few years back. When I was 8 I loved the music but now I'm a grumpy old man and while watching it was like "damn turn it down". It just didn't have the same vibe to me.

I rewatched it about a week ago on iTunes and it was just as good as when I was young. Great movie.

That little snot needed a good arse whooping. I also blame him for what happened to Ultra Magnus.
Agree completely. The soundtrack still pumps me up to defend autobot city.
Amen. A great initial comment and excellent reply.
It feels so ahead of its time.
