The FREE service only offers Talk and Text, not data (you need to use data for GPS).

It's ok over wifi or data but with their sim takes 30 sec to get a dial tone. Connection is laggy, i can hear my voice echo. Waste of $5 for me.

Approx. where are you?

You should be able to download a Google map of the area of interest and use GPS, but, of course, you would not see traffic info.

Yes, you can make outgoing and incoming calls, with the SIM on T-mobile network. Must use its own TextNow app for the calls.

There is A LOT of ads and I find them super annoying but hey it's free!

I, on the other hand, hardly notice them at all. I couldn't even tell you what any of them were for.

I did. I tried another gmail account, and tried facebook account(if you once used the same email address before), to order two SIM kits.

If I'm on the overseas trip for a while, 1 month, for example, how can I keep the number active?
Of course. You could pay to keep it "permanent" or just send a text or voice mail from wherever you are to your Textnow phone.

I've been using their service for several years on an old Galaxy that a friend gave me.
TextNow with SIM works very well in my area (East Coast). Zero problems with no lag and very good voice quality. For me, the ads are not annoying or intrusive at all.
They provide a small amt. of very slow data free each month. They claim it's enough for Uber or to check Email. I haven't tried that. Of course, it works over my home WiFi and I use it every day. I also use it for 2FA at a major financial institution. For me, it's one of the great services available for "free" and I've recommended it to lots of friends.

Same experience here, thanks for sharing yours.

I wasn't aware that "They provide a small amt. of very slow data free each month", how? I don't care much about speed in my use case, even in Kbps, like emails. Where/How did you find that? Thanks!
