There is an expiration date on the SIM card kit(about half a year to a year as I could recall), you will have to activate the SIM before that date, or the SIM will become void. Since it's free and unlimited monthly, so I don't think of a good reason to wait(but I could miss something).

Keep in mind that after you start using TextNow's phone number assigned to you, you will need to use it once a while(make calls or send/receive text message) or you will lose the number. You can request for a new number though, so if you don't care about the number much like I do(I mostly make outgoing calls as a backup phone), then you don't worry about losing the number due to inactivity.

Hope that helps.

From my experience, it looks to be VOIP number, like Google voice number.

Same experience here, thanks for sharing yours.

I wasn't aware that "They provide a small amt. of very slow data free each month", how? I don't care much about speed in my use case, even in Kbps, like emails. Where/How did you find that? Thanks!
They sent me an email or txt when free data was first provided. On line usage data show the amt. consumed and the charge of "0". You should be able to read email but likely not send any. But, again, I don't really know since I haven't used TN for that purpose. There are lots of Xfinity nodes in my area and the phone connects to those automatically for data access.

Where do I go obtain virtual card? I really like your approach
I use an app called Privacy. Been using it for years. You can generate one time use cards, or cards for one particular merchant, and set limits. I usually set a limit of $1 for free trials.

So I created a burner google account but don't want to provide my cc upon checkout. If I use PayPal will they try to make additional charges aka autopay?

I started using the service in 2018. Yes it is really free and yes it works well most of the time. You get a VOIP phone number, which means you do calls and texts (unlimited) over a 2G internet connection. No data at all unless you pay for it. I've found that you can do Google searches and go to the TextNow website over the 2G connection for free which is pretty cool if you ever need to search for an address or phone number, but that's about it for benefits. The service was great back in the day, but over the years they've tried making money in places they didn't belong. For example, I had a serious online service account linked to my TextNow phone number, and one day they just decided to start charging for verification codes (Like 5 bucks a month). I contacted them and explained that I was locked out of this account because of their paywall which is unethical. I text chatted them until they dropped me from the chat. The entire time they gaslit me saying that I just have to pay them to access the security code. I was so angry after being dropped, but they must have gotten frustrated with the situation too because not long after I found that I could do security codes again without paying them. But they didn't stop charging for security codes though, they only amended my account without telling me. TextNow is not a bad company to go with. There are even modified versions of their app to get rid of ads (I don't trust those though). My advice is get a phone with them as a backup regardless. You will get a charge of $0.00 to your PayPal every month. Take the battery out of the (preferably cheap) phone and keep it in your car. Just buy them and keep them in good places just in case you ever are in an emergency and without a phone. A $20 phone and $1 sim card can save you in many situations. Btw, for those who don't like stupidity, they did Tweet this: https://twitter.com/TextNow/statu...4417968129

you need to link your checking account to it. hence any debit from your account is possible. the same with sendwave.

I'm not seeing a way to check out with PayPal. Credit card results in wanting a credit card but I can select PayPal checkout option but doing so doesn't give any options to go forward.

EDIT* they also require you to use a Google, FB or Apple account? I can't just create an account...?

Thanks. I'm not far from you and have had zero issues that I can recall using my old Galaxy. Go figure, right?

Because it works without wifi through textnow app it uses t-mobile towers for data to call/text without wifi
By wifi, do you mean data in general (e.g., wifi and cellular)? Cuz I've been using Google Voice for a while, and I can send texts and make calls with cellular data. But it sounds like TextNow works even when there's no data (but has cell phone signal)? Just wanna make sure I don't miss anything. Thanks Smilie

I lost the sim. So I've been just using the app with internet access only to make calls and texts. Anyway to replace the lost sim?
