Weatherproof Vintage:
44% Polyester│38% Acrylic│15% Wool│3% Lycra® Spandex

Timberland:
67% Cotton | 16% Nylon | 12% Polyester | 4% Rubber | 1% Spandex

Is my understanding correct that cotton should be better?
Fit great… Haven't had stretched out in calf area or anything like that.

BUT some of my pairs are getting holes in the heals now at 1 year in.

Tempting to get more at just over $1 per pair… but I was mad that they were already getting holes 1 year in (purchased at full price in store) and said I wouldn't buy them again, as there are better/thicker socks for just a bit more.

Trying to do less waste nowadays.
Good deal, but not thick. Pretty thin and hold up OK.
Personally, I prefer a wool (merino)/poly blend over cotton.

just to confirm, there 6 pair means a total of 12 socks correct? Asking because the picture on the website shows a total of only 6 socks.

Yes. There are 5+1 different socks in there, so the pic fans the 6 out so you can kinda see the slight differences.

Ugh, why must they all be different colors, making it that much harder to pair after washing.

Or pull a pair out of the drawer in the dark (when they're all one color you don't have to pair them, just chuck them in)

Picked up the 5 sets for 29.99 not bad. I'll keep the extras for years to come. I know in stores now 6 pairs is anywhere from 10-20 dollars. So this is a good deal, like buy 2 get 3 free at regular costs

I have been wearing duluth trading socks. So far they are holding up well and stay tight. Socks getting loose after a few months really annoy me.

Any idea how is quality? I used to buy weatherproof vintage, but not much happy with their quality.

The last pack of weatherproof socks I bought from Costco is far superior to the last pack of timberland socks I bought from Costco. Previous timberland purchased had been my favorite socks. These aren't like the others

Look for socks with higher quality materials. High content wool (Merino especially) and cotton are FAAR superior to nearly all other modern materials socks are made from, especially all the plastics (anything with "poly" in the name, that claim they are "wicking"), that's marketing hype so you don't realize you are actually buying just pure crap.

Cotton is one of the most comfortable but doesn't wear very well, there are several types of content used as well but they are almost never differentiated on the label (because it isn't required), so often cheap high content cotton socks wear faster than better quality cotton socks. Cotton also loses it's mild insulation properties when it gets wet and then holds that moisture unlike wool which is the best material at insulating while moist/damp/wet.

Merino wool is generally known to be the most comfortable wool, and can wear relatively well, medium to high heat damages wools composition and so air drying anything with wool will help it wear better (last longer).

Nylon content is what make socks "tough" or wear-well but it's a lousy comfort material so the balance between comfort, warmth and durability can be a tricky one, ESPECIALLY for what many consider a "reasonable" price.

Well made socks with premiums materials can be an absolute luxury, but yeah, buying various "multiple-pacs" like these, based on how many pair per dollar spent will likely not get anyone to the promised land, just FYI.

Did a deep dive into the science of socks during the pandemic and it was absolutely fascinating.

Hope any of this helps.

The Timberland socks I bought a year or two ago are my everyday socks with jeans in the winter. I like how thin they are compared to the Weatherproof. I have thicker wool socks from Costco and Cabela's for cold weather.

IMO by comparison these are terrible. Darn Tough wool socks are all I wear in the winter because I live in snow and cold country. They might cost ~3x these cotton ones, but they last forever.

I've never had to use the Darn Tough lifetime replacement policy because they are really well made. I consider my Darn Toughs an investment in my health--I don't get winter colds nearly as much since I bought a drawer full of them about 5 years ago.

I would never recommend purchase cheap thicker cotton socks like these Timberlands for winter wear. If you live in a moderate dry desert climate like southern CA/NV/AZ maybe--just don't count on them in cold weather.

Not if they get wet from the weather or too much sweat--wet cotton socks will make your feet cold. Cotton holds water; wool and almost all synthetics do not.

Cheap wool and synthetic socks like those Weatherproof ones are much better in cold or wet weather. They won't last as long as Darn Toughs because they aren't as well made (lower grade of wool, etc.) but they will at least keep you warm.
