It definitely isn't for everyone especially at this price point but for my needs it is pretty much perfect. There are pros and cons and it may not be the device for you.

To answer some questions:

- Yes you are required to own a PS5 to use this.
- No you do not need to be on the same network as the PS5.
- It does work over the internet back to your PS5 at home which I have done. (Recommend you hardwire your PS5 though)
- It serves no other function than playing your PS5 on a mobile device.
- It does not have Bluetooth.
- it has a standard headphone jack.
- If you want wireless headphones you have to purchase Sony's "Pulse Explore" headphones.
- The controller functions just as a standard PS5 controller with all the features. (Trackpad is a soft button using the touchscreen)
- It cannot connect to WiFi that requires a captive portal as there is no built-in browser to accept terms etc…

As a side note:
I own both a Backbone and this. They each have their pros and cons. The Backbone was by no means a bad setup. I loved it. I just didn't prefer the smaller screen I was using and the layout of the buttons compared to a standard PS5 controller. The Backbone using a phone did have the big advantage of being able to connect to any type of WiFi and some of the concerns people have about having to remove their case to use it didn't apply to me because I just dedicated one of my old phones sitting around to this.

One other thing is that they do make the PS Remote Play app for the iPad and you can use a Bluetooth controller with it so that could be an option for those who already own an iPad and want a bigger screen than this.

At the end of the day it's not for everyone and there are other options out there like installing Chiaki on a hacked Switch or a Steam Deck. That app can allow you to do PS5 Remote Play on your existing mobile gaming device. For the Switch you of course need one that's running custom firmware though. So that is a potential issue for some.

I was eager to get one of these but then I learned it doesn't smoothly handle multiple profiles. That's a killer for me so I'll go for a more expensive steam deck like device.
Nice for those who this works for

I can't imagine a use case for this for most people, though it makes sense for me. Our baby sleeps in our room, so gaming on the bedroom TV is kinda out. At least now I should be able to get a little bit of game time in while laying in bed on sleepless nights.

Exactly how I've been using it. Gaming while kid sleeps is perfect, now those times I want to game and can't bc of noise/lights from television I can comfortably game in bed with the portal and the pulse buds. Total of $400 invested but worth every penny as I get nearly daily use out of the device.

I have 500 MBPS internet that's extended into my bedroom which gets about 250MBPs. I then hard line from the bedroom extender into the PS5 this has given me pretty much perfect remote playing without any major lag or drop in resolution about 98% of the time.

How's the delay on this thing compared to remote play? Is this thing basically remote play but with an attached controller? I tried playing on on my phone and the delay was horrible. Specially for quick action games.
This is exactly why it's useless unless you're on the same network as your ps5. Sure it works remotely but is laggy to the point that it's unplayable.

can this be purchased with a PSN card? I have some credit card points I want to redeem for four $50 PSN cards. But on the checkout page for the PS Portal, there is only an option for credit card payment. Would the PSN code be entered in the apply coupon section?

It would be a nice item if you could just rom it and add games somehow. As this sits, worthless for most people.

Yeah. If that's what you're looking to do then sure. If you're trying to go that route though you should look in to Chiaki. It's a little tricky to get setup but once you do you may enjoy it.
