Borealis does not standup on its own. If you load up the main compartment and the rear laptop compartment it could stand up on its own.
However if you over fill the top front admin pouch it will tip over.
Plus the strap stitching at the shoulders is weak.
Mine has started to come apart less than a year after purchase and only used for travel about 7 times.
No. They refuse to do business in CA. I mean you can't even put a CA zip code in the terminal in a physical store in a other states. I don't blame them.

No business to CA and NY? Giga-Chad level based! I may buy one now.
Absolutely overpriced and overrated backpack. There are so much better more practical alternatives for that money.
Agreed. I have this pack and don't like how it is laid out at all.
The front pouch is almost unusable. It's small so what you can load is limited to headphones, glasses case, etc. Anything beyond that causes it to tip if set down. It also unbalances the pack when worn, creating a weird pull at the shoulders. I'm constantly having to adjust when I use it.
The large pouch is limited by the zippers on the side. Once past the midpoint, the pack has tons of room at the bottom. Getting to it with bulky items is difficult at best.
Storing a jacket on the outside of the pack with the webbing is ideal but it will lose its elasticity over time and look like a dead shoe string or a wet noodle after repeated use.
I would not recommend this pack for anyone. There are better options out there.
still have the original slingshot with the hidden compartment with straps at the bottom from 2010. Bought it second hand and it has never let me down.
but that camo is kinda nice ngl.
Mine failed in multiple spots after 5 years, bottom blew out, straps wore out and tore with pretty limited use. North face couldn't repair it when I paid to send it to the depot and gave me a $40 gift card which barely covers half of a new one. Never buying a NF bag again
Bought a Borealis in 2009 that lasted 14 years with only a tiny tear. Bought a new one last year and the seams are already coming apart. Sad to see the massive decline in quality at North Face.

Just ordered the camo one to use as a cheap range bag. Should be long enough for the MP5 or other pistol cal carbines under 18".
