Folks here know more than me about guitars so I feel like I can ask this question. I'm genuinely curious and would appreciate any and all explanations y'all might have for me.

What makes these guitars so expensive? I know that the vintage ones have historical context to them and hence the value.

I'm a newbie guitar player and I bought a Squire (Esquire single humbucker) on sale.

I like the construction and design but I can tell that they've used cheap hardware to meet the price point. Some fret sprout and overall rough-around-the edge vibe. But I love it since I'm super motivated to learn the instrument and get good at it over time.

I know you get better build quality, pickups, craftsmanship, hardware and feel when you pick up a standard edition, but is that worth the markup? Genuinely curious, it's going to be a long time before I'm at the financial readiness to purchase a $1k+ guitar.

You're gonna get some mixed messages on this I bet but honestly it comes down to features and craftsmanship. Like any other hobby, there's a law of diminishing returns. I think The Sweet Spot for most guitars is about 700 to 1200 bucks. You can get a nice PRS SE model, a nice American Strat, and a basic Gibson for about that amount. More than that you're paying for bling, and maybe some creature comforts. I will say the two fender Ultra series guitars I own are my favorite guitars. The contoured bodies, compound radius necks, and just the feel of the guitars are unmatched. My recommendation anyone is just to go into a guitar shop that has a bunch and to try them out.

Thanks for pointing this out, couldn't resist!
Update - i hate Sam Ash. they sent the wrong guitar - SG Standard, not an SG Standard 61. Terrible customer service didn't apologize, and offered to give me a label to return it. I'm waiting for a salesman to call me back but am not hopeful they will honor the discounts.
