I had to return mine because of the smell it was releasing when cooking. It wouldn't go away no matter what I tried. It was coming from the coating. Doesn't seem to be a common issue, but it did happen to me nonetheless. Other than the smell it seemed to be a great unit well worth more than double the sale price. Cooked quickly & it wasn't that loud either. The smell it gave off was horrendous though. Like a chemical I've never smelled before. May be worth to try it outdoors first if possible.

I've had 2 of these. The first unit had the smell for about a week or two. The second unit went away after a day.

I think this is the lowest I have seen this (or similar) air fryers go for. I remember buying similar air fryers for $50 many years ago, and that was considered a great deal. Crazy that they are selling these for $30, especially with the high inflation. Not available for shipping, but ordered two for store pickup. Thanks OP. Repped!

How long ago did you own these? I wonder if there was an issue with these in the past that they have now fixed. I guess I'll run mine for a few hours outside to get rid of the smell.

The first unit I've had for well over a year. The second unit I just used for about 2 weeks. No issues.

Good to know, thanks. Over a year is a long time for the coatings to burn off. Looks like the thickness of the coatings must vary wildly.

Awesome, thanks for the tip. Already ordered two for pickup, otherwise might have ordered one from eBay.

Buying directly from BestBuy does have a few advantages though. Returns should be more straight forward (not sure you can even return a BestBuy eBay item to a local store).

Also, one huge plus of doing a BB pickup is that I can just order first and think later. If I change my mind about an item, I can easily cancel or let the pickup expire. They also let you extend the pickup by a couple or weeks, so if you don't need the item urgently, you can just let it sit there while you make up your mind. I did this with a KitchenAid food processor. Finally going to pick it up next week after letting the store pickup sit for over 2 weeks.

Oh, and if you buy directly from BB, you can get 4% CB from RmeNot. My $1.2 CB already tracked for both of my orders.

Thanks for the tip. Great for those who don't live near a BB.

When I first get a new cooking device I always cook mine outside (with nothing in it) for a few 10 or 20 minute sessions, Cooling in between, to burn off any chemicals. Oh and it goes without saying but wash everything inside really well first with dish soap

It's not from the coating it's from the plastic casing. Run the unit outside or in a garage for 2-3 hours and most of it burns off. Let it cool down completely, wash it and dry it with dish soap and water between break in 1 hour cooks. On the third hour brush oil around the basket before starting it. After that it should be good to go and the smell completely gone or greatly reduced.

To have a 4.7 rating out of 5.0 and thousands of reviews on best buy....I have to think the smell thing is rare.
