No HDMI or surround sound, might as well just get a thrift store receiver for $20. People are unloading their older receivers that only support 1080p for not much more.

Not that kind of receiver… I use this for music on my patio
I have this, it is a great amp. my only complaint is that the airplay is airplay v1 and not Airplay2(which allows certain benefits like including it in a multicast to other receivers/apple tvs through out my home in sync). I use a belkin device to make it airplay2 compatible for $~60.

I wouldn't mind no surround or HDMI if it at least supported a sub out so you can set crossover. The advice of getting an old one from a thrift store or garage sale for $20 is pretty good. I'm still using a Yamaha htr-5650 from 20 years ago for stereo music and it sounds great and allows you to set up the sub. Just add something like a Wiim to handle the streaming duties.

Yeah but the complaint still misses the point. This isn't an AV receiver for a home theater. It's a stereo receiver for music. 99% of music is mixed in stereo. Surround is pointless.
And a thrift store receiver won't give you the ability to decode losslessly like this will. If you run some old beast with a Wiim you'll just be using the Wiim's meh DAC, and end up with fairly meh input. And sure you can set up a good system by putting together your own streamer/DAC/vintage-receiver, but this is an easy, all-in-one package that integrates all three of those things.

I can see that point, but no ability to set sub out with crossover is still a deal killer for me. A sub is a must for music and I have my old receiver paired with a Wiim Pro Plus and it has a fantastic DAC, supports any streaming service you would need, Chromecast and Airplay 2.

Totally agree about the sub. Super weird this doesn't have a pre-out.
That's cool you like the Wiim Pro+! I've wanted to check one of those out. Looks like a really nifty device (of course at that point you're dropping almost as much on the streamer alone as you would for this receiver, so many people will prefer to just get one device!)

The Wiim Pro+ has been on sale a few times for under $180. That is when I picked one up. Wiim's software is so easy to use for streaming services and your own music with Chromecast and Airplay 2 support that I feel it is well worth the cost.
This Yamaha isn't a terrible deal for an all in one though. My issue just remains that older receivers and amps are available for $10-$20 at thrift stores, garage sales and facebook marketplace in really good condition. I would at least consider building a stereo or 2.1 setup with older used equipment and focusing your money on what actually counts like the speakers.
