Of course, I already have a DCF923, so I don't need this regardless. I mostly came on here to say that this tool is freaking awesome... So handy for all the typical socket work (lag screws, bolts on cars, etc)--works way better (and is smaller) than sticking an adapter on my impact driver.
I paired this with the DCF891 for the (imo) perfect 1-2 punch. But the 891 will likely be waaaay more than I will ever need--I haven't even used it yet! So far, the 923 has handled everything I've needed.

DCF923 3/8" drive is a better choice than the DCF921 1/2" drive.
Adding a low profile 3/8" to 1/2" drive adapter to the DCF923 only loses 1/4" of clearance.
Adding a 1/2" to 3/8" drive adapter to the DCF921 loses an inch (or more) of clearance, the adapter is weaker, and more power is absorbed (lost) by the adapter.
The perfect combo for most shade tree mechanics with DeWalt batteries is:
-DCF850 for 1/4" drive. Super low profile as an impact wrench, amazing as an impact driver
-DCF923 for 3/8" drive, perfect for most uses and lug nuts on smaller cars
-DCF891 for 1/2" drive, larger lug nuts and most suspension work

On the Milwaukee side of things (since OP mentioned the M12), M18 high impact is where the 1/2" definitely makes sense (with 1100+ ft-lbs), you could argue the same for their mid torque at 650 ft-lbs (if I recall correctly).
Biggest dewalt battery I have is 1.7ah so I think ideally I'd need something bigger for this.
Also been debating between the 3/8in and 1/2in models.

The price is good if you keep it all but you can reduce price by returning tools and do the same process over.
Depending on how you use the tool will determine if 3/8 or 1/2 is best for you.
If you are a heavy user and you drain your 1.7 than a 4,5 or 6ah would be a good addition.
