The Innogrit controller on this drive is relatively new and has had serious problems.
Thailand floods were 2011 though! At that time, 1TB drives were big and 2TB were huge. It still steadily rose to 8TB, with some premium ~14TB drives. But these were mostly with increasing the number of platters, not areal density.

I'm just worried that demand for increased size dropped off. For example, what percent of people use more than 2TB? 10%? What percent of people use more than 4TB? Now it's 1%. That's not a lot of market force. I want an 8TB NVME system drive for $200. But I'm worried that I won't get it until 2030.

Finally a capacity I'm actually satisfied with for an SSD at sub-$200. I wonder if this will be the limit for 5 years, like with 8TB mechanical drives?

I got this last time this deal was posted. I needed it for a laptop so I removed the heat sink and installed bare drive. Only 4 screws and no adhesive other than slightly sticky thermal pads. So far so good. No issues transferring about 2tb from the drive it replaced. Performs well.

I was joking, it was sarcasm. I actually have some verbatim CD-R & DVD-Rs in my closet haha , but I wouldn't risk 4TB on a brand unknown for HDs, at least in modern day Intels & Samsungs

8TB HDD's have been under $200 for quite a while now
