About this movie:
  • Director: James Cameron
  • Summary: 57 years after Ellen Ripley had a close encounter with the reptilian alien creature from the first movie, she is called back, this time, to help a group of highly trained colonial marines fight off against the sinister extraterrestrials. But this time, the aliens have taken over a space colony on the moon LV-426. When the colonial marines are called upon to search the deserted space colony, they later find out that they are up against more than what they bargained for. Using specially modified machine guns and enough firepower, it's either fight or die as the space marines battle against the aliens. As the Marines do their best to defend themselves, Ripley must attempt to protect a young girl who is the sole survivor of the nearly wiped out space colony.

Back in the day, had the $150 deluxe laserdisc Constant Angular Velocity version; each side was under 30 minutes and had to flip/change disks every time it ended. It was absolutely the best laserdisc we owned.

Amazing that for $5 we now have a MUCH higher quality and I no longer have to flip laser discs!
Game over, man! Game over!

RIP Bill Paxton
I can confirm with Vudu you do get both versions, but the Special Edition is under Extras, not as a separate movie.

What pains me is adults in college don't even know what this movie is, much less teens.

Oh come on. You know you miss it! Back in the day, it was a process and an experience to watch a movie or play a CD or something. Doing a bit of work for it like driving to the video store or something somehow made the experience more rewarding. While the modern day conveniences have certainly made our lives easier, we got to admit we have lost something along the way. That said, purchased! Big Grin

100%.

There were a few times when I would be watching with friends, and after 29 minutes, one of us would stand up and say (in a Mel-brooks type manner) "P*ss boy!" and the Laser turner would get up and do the appointed job.
It was usually me. laugh out loud

For those waiting on Amazon, they have price matched it. Enjoi
Any idea which store to buy from for the best chance of ending up with both versions in 4K?

Just before people get excited, they screwed up this 4k remaster big time. They didn't bother to rescan the 35mm film, it's nothing more than an upscaled copy of the 1080p version. In some ways it looks worse.

You'll be safe w/ any storefront but stick to Amazon if any doubts. I got mine early on thru iTunes before other storefront started to price match.

I already had Aliens (Theatrical) on iTunes and it's been upgraded to 4k, but I can't check the iTunes extras for the Special Edition because they replaced iTunes with Apple TV on Windows and it doesn't let you view extras. Should it have the Special Edition as an extra?

UPDATE: I'm guessing it's there because I logged in to MoviesAnywhere and see it in their extras list and can watch it.

The 4K UHD Bluray disc is on pre-order for $25 (shipping March 12) and appears to include a digital copy. Can't wait!
yups, this is one of those movies I want the 4K BluRay quality for.

that said, for those that don't want that, this is a killer deal.

Just purchased the VUDU version Theatrical, and what others have confirmed, if you go to the extras, the Special Addition is there with 4K/DV and Atmos.

For 5 dollars? Yup. I've been reading on the forums for a couple months on how bad/weird this transfer is, so i went in with low expectations.

Watched first 20 minutes and really, I expected it to be worse. Yeah it's a bit degrained, looks a bit too clean, but overall, 5 dollars SE, 4K and a good Atmos track. I really can't complain.

Recommend.

Its always been the case where things will only port (when a title is MA) if you buy it directly at the time of having 4k, otherwise when purchasing HD and getting the free upgrade to 4k it just stays in Itunes.
Good to know, even though it makes absolutely no damn sense. As if the timing of the purchase should dictate what quality it transfers to on other services. I can't stand how stupid this industry is honestly. I'll just reserve any purchases now for 4k exclusively on Apple for MA. Their loss.

I am so confused. Is there a way to get the 4K Special Edition *and* the bonus content? (don't care if the bonus content is 4K or not)

I already had Aliens on iTunes so I believe I got the free upgrade so it wasn't really a choice for me but just in case anyone wants to wait and they want the 4k Bluray disc, save the 5 bucks because you'll get it with the physical copy.
