NEW RELEASE: Amazon Echo Hub | 8” smart home control panel with Alexa for $144 with Amazon Device Trade-In

Just released today is Amazon's new Echo Hub smart home controller.

Full price is $180, but you can get 20% off if you have an old Amazon device laying around to use for trade-in, making it $144.

I, along with many others, have been waiting for a long time for an affordable and easy way to integrate my smart home devices on to one wall mounted touch screen hub, and this appears to do just that. It doesn't check all my boxes (wish it were a larger screen), but it checks off most of them.

This isn't the Echo Show 15, which you seem to be thinking of. This is a 8" inch contol center for smart home devices, and it doesn't have the ads that come on the Echo Show devices. Personally, I wish the Echo Show 15 was as capable as this Echo Hub is, because I prefer the larger screen. I think a 12" secreen would be ideal, but I'm sure that Amazon will wait until generation 3 or 4 before putting that out. So I have to settle with the 8" screen for now.
Echo Show integrates a Fire TV and that's a killer feature

Eager to try it out but from what I've read I won't hold my breath... Lol
It's perfect for the kitchen, don't listen to the voices Smilie. Get a remote, though

In looking at the current lack luster reviews and knowing Amazon I think I'll wait!
Looks like there are quite a few bugs and updates to be worked out. Then when Prime day comes, they'll knock $50+ dollars off and make it a more worthy "investment"

I APPLAUD the effort and the idea and I'm looking forward to the finished product.

HEY SAMSUNG ARE YOU WATCHING THIS? COME OUT WITH SOMETHING SIMILAR AND I'LL ADOPT IMMEDIATELY!

is that rhetorical? If so, well damn.

Going on, I dunno, 11+ years of smart home torture— not including x10 😖 - Whenever the original echo came out and you could leverage the hue control functionality "Alexa skill" to control your micasa verde. Went from that to ST to Hubitat and now I'm in this sad limbo of crap not working in hue or Alexa or ST (never fully moved) or Hubitat. I'm exhausted. Gimme something that works. I wish I had time for something like HA but it sounds like too much.

I will give this a go, but I'll wait til prime day. Thanks OP for the heads up.

I've been waiting for Samsung to introduce something similar for Smartthings for years, but I've given up home. This new Echo Hub will have to do for now.

Yeah I'm in pretty much the same situation. I was looking at doing something with Home Assistant, but it just seems like too much work. I just want something that works well out of the box for all my smart devices. I'm tired of switching from app to app to fully control some of my devices. I never really was a fan of the voice command assistants like Alexa. I have a few echo's and rarely use them, except to listen to music. For my smart home, I much prefer a touch screen with organized tiles.

They're just intrusive ad-infested mic'd trojan horse screens. I bought a bunch of 5's for the proximity feature so Alexa automation turns on/off my light bulbs when I enter my room but they're completely hit or miss despite me being right in front of the screen. It's only a matter of time before they put Alexa automation behind a subscription fee too. Don't be surprised when Amazon puts ads in this hub before the end of next year with how unprofitable Alexa has been (and this despite them selling our audio data to advertisers)
It's a total lie that the audio data is being sold.

HA is a bit much to get working… but once you do, it's pretty great… far better than the rest. I too went through many before settling on HA… HomeGenie, Wink, SmartThings, Hubitat.
If it makes it any more appealing, HA is much easier to setup than a few years ago 🙃

No, this is a dedicated smart home hub, so it does not have the same features as a tablet or echo show. The Echo Hub does far more for Smart Home functionality than a Fire Tablet or Echo Show.

Can you explain some of the smart home features that sets this apart?

For everyone complaining about ads, Do you sit and stare at them all day? Mine mostly cycles through pictures and maybe once every few days I see a suggestion for a skill.

I guess it depends on where you're putting it, but I have a 5 in my work den I rarely see anything on and only visually look at with the ring doorbell, and then the 8 in my kitchen where I use it for recipes and music.

I wouldn't put it in any room you sit and can see it where your vision focuses (TV room). Otherwise, I think people are just nitpicking.
