Furthermore, I believe I got a returned item even though those seals were not ripped. I say this because the instructions in the box was flipped around.
I even had a chat with Apple rep. He couldn't help me but said I can try to go through Apple genius but couldn't carry it will be free as the warranty will be based on when the model was released. This sounds confusing as the SN has not been registered. He suggested that I should return to Amazon.
Anyhow, good luck.

The warranty should be based on when it was purchased, not when the model was released. I think you got bad info.
I have read that you can chat with Apple's support to provide proof of purchase in order to have Apple update the warranty expiration date.
In your specific case, having the logo "turn yellow and then shut down" might be an indication that it was previously used, activated and returned. Maybe it wasn't activated because the previous buyer found the same problem. If it was defective or used, Amazon certainly should not have resold it (especially as new).
If any of these features matter to you / worth $70 to you. From the Apple Watch Wikipedia page:
