HP EX900 500GB NVME Gen 3 SSD for $14.99 at Staples (in store only) YMMV

Chanced upon this at my local staples. Guys at the counter were surprised at the price. Was cheaper than even the 250GB version. Not one of the fastest SSDs, but I think it's a good deal at this price. Seems to be in-store only. Not sure if other branches have the same discount so YMMV.

Great deal for a 3rd or 4th drive, or put in an enclosure and use like a big thumb drive. Excellent! Supposedly one store near me has two. Will verify later.

Wondering if I should get this for my laptop. It already has 512GB of pre-installed storage and one additional SSD slot left. It's a gaming laptop so I wanted to get a 2GB SSD for the empty slot but those are really expensive right now. Maybe I should just use this as a placeholder in the meantime.

The 1TB version might be on clearance too, I guess.

Split the difference, grab a 1tb now if you can find one for a good price. Then down the road replace the stock 512gb SSD with a 1 or 2tb drive.

Anyone go to the store to grab one of these and not have it ring up as $15.99?

I confirm the deal works in California, Bay Area. Bought it yesterday and it was the last one at the store.
Note: I checked online if item is indeed in-stock at specific store before going there.

I checked the Coit store in Dallas TX. They did not have any, and checked other local stores. There were 3 with 1, but they said most stores showing 1 would not have it, so I gave up.

Thanks OP! Picked up two HP EX900 500GB M.2 PCIe NVME SSD at Staples. Rang up at $14.99 each. Made in Taiwan. Included the M2 mounting screw and a paper manual in the box.

Firmware S0614B0. Seems to be a DRAM-less SMI controller and some Biwin labeled NANDs, whos the OEM for these HP drives. CrystalDiskMark benchmarks 2097/1601 MB/s R/W, which matches specifications of 2100 MB/s read and 1500 MB/s write. Nothing blazing/Mid-performance for Gen3, but just needed a boot SSD as an older HP S700 500GB SATA SSD is starting to fail, very slow reads and checksum errors.

The 1TB version rang up at $59.99. I'll wait for it to drop to <$30. Pics/receipt below...

I couldn't find it in the aisles so I asked the employee for the item without mentioning anything about pricing. He said they keep it in a room in the back. He went in the back, retrieved it, scanned it and then said the price must be a mistake but didn't argue or anything. Just charged me 14.99 and I was on my way.

Hey where can I find their 14.99 signs to show the staffs?

Look for the display box in the hard drive / SSD aisle in-store and bring it to cashier for them to retrieve it. If the display box isn't there then it's most likely sold-out.

My local store had two on the shelf; I grabbed one as a just-in-case drive. Note that these things are slooooooow, with 2100MB/s reads and 1500MB/s writes. They also had some 1TB 2.5" internal SSDs from PNY and HP on sale for $50 and $40 respectively.

The site said the same for my local store, but they had some on the shelf marked at $14.99, so you'll need to go in to check for yourself.
