I love tteokbokki, I'll give all 3 flavors a try. Bought 2 packs for each.

No need to be concerned about the sodium levels like someone was in the comments. Just don't eat all of the sauce.

Tteokbokki goes well with hardboiled egg fyi. Throw in some green onions as well.

If you wanted to go a step further, buy some fishcakes from ur local asian grocery and throw some in as well.

There's no right way or wrong way to use the exact ingredients but the sauce is the main thing. You should be able to get most of this stuff in your local asian market. My may is not conventional so here it is.

You can google how to make this stuff in the web but here's my ingredients

1 2-lb or 1kg of plain rice cakes, note that you can buy the flat kind and not the roll kind.
3 tablespoon of gochujang paste. Note if it is too hot, you can mix 1/2 of hot gochujang paste and the other half black bean paste.
1-2 tablespoon of raw sugar
1 tablespoon of soup stock powder instead of soy sauce for the umami flavor especially if it has msg
1 6-10 oz of fish cakes. Note that I never used fish cakes and used 1 lb of ground pork instead because it was cheaper
1 tablespoon of garlic
For vegetables:
I use about 12oz to 1lb of green cabbage or napa cabbage.
1 onion chopped
You can use mushrooms or scallons but this is optional.
You can use hard boiled eggs too but it is optional.

Yeah. Cause 1/4 tsp of salt is a lot!

Same as 3 tbsp of ketchup.

Thanks for keeping us updated on how healthy you are

Rice cakes are one of the stranger things to come out of Asian cuisine. It's extremely chewy. It's like eating a thicker gummy bear. I think that's the best way to describe it. Western cuisine doesn't really have a comparison, other than maybe eating chicken gizzards? But even than the comparison isn't good enough.

It is really weird. I'm not into it. I'd rather just eat pasta noodles. I feel like I could choke on it if not careful enough. Every year people die eating Mochi which is also extremely chewy (gets stuck in the throat if too big of a piece is swallowed). Both are made with glutinous rice.

If it's that tough you're just not cooking it right, I'm sorry. That's what it is. They are soft and an amazing comfort food. I've had it dozens of times. And the death risk is laughable. My god. Like people are dying left and right all across Korea and Japan. Lmao.

Ok, you've got me interested. I've never heard of these before. Is the texture kinda noodley or is it more chewy?
It's a very popular dish in Korea. Something most Koreans would say is something identifiably Korean. It's chewy. Just imagine sticky white rice compressed together with a smoother texture.

Not a good deal. I go to my local Asian supermarket and just buy plain rice cakes and separate sauce, and brown sugar to make a whole pot of this stuff for much better price.
