Jaws are hardened, I wonder if the anvil is hardened too. 30ksi isn't terrible for a vise, however a comparable Central Machinery 6" from HF (59104) has a clamping force of 8000 lbs vs this one's 6700lbs, albeit at nearly twice the price of this current deal...

Good price on an alright product.

Go for a used vise, as old as you can find. Plenty of good brands, but see garage journal for threads on which ones to buy and how to restore, if needed or desired.

For $41 this is a solid deal on a basic 6" vise shipped to your door and not needing additional restoration work like most used vises - which even dirty older ones that need a ton of work usually go for much more.

It's not going to be as strong as older ones or more expensive ones from better brands but for basic home use with no fuss this is a no-brainer.

I read the negative reviews and did not see this same trend. Out of 158 reviews how many did you find to indicate a broken jaw? I found one review that states the purchaser received broken unit new in box. Otherwise I found no other occur aces of a broken jaw.

Was still able to order free in-store pickup through Grainger (shipping was going to be like $25 which was a no-go for me). Great timing as I've been looking to get a Vise.

I've been wondering the same, it says it's the same model (BV-HD60) here from HD and seems to at least show 2 mounting holes there (which is also a strange design decision if true). I figured for $40 though, better than nothing!
