I also enjoy that it doesn't sit in my ear all day. This allows me to use it for hours without any soreness. Plus I get to still hear all of my surroundings when out and about. If I need ANC I can bring those with me and use those instead.
I haven't had anyone complain about the call quality, so I can't say much on call quality other than that. It sounds like you didn't give it a chance or you don't have a need for open-air earpods. I personally find them fantastic for what they are and for their price. They are my preferred Bluetooth headphones when I head out for the day.

The added weight isn't noticeable, at least not for me. I enjoy having these on my glasses as I always have a pair of headsets ready to go at a moments notice. It is much easier to turn on and activate by pushing a button then to dig into my pocket, pull out the earpod, or pull it out of my bag. Especially if I'm getting a phone call and i can't hold my phone to my ear. Like if my hands are dirty or if I'm already preoccupied and I'm not able to reach for my earpods.
