These sound amazing but they are built like trash. I had 2 pairs and both lasted less than a year. After the 2nd pair went out I got a refund from drop.

I'm gonna get blasted for this but even at 400 it's not worth the gamble. Yes they're great sounding headphones... while the voice coil lasts. They are riddled with qc issues (to this day) that simply outweigh the positives. Also, the earpads have a tendency to disintegrate very quickly, and they are $200 to replace direct from focal. There are 3rd party pads out there but they change the sound enough that it's not ideal.

I typically buy headphones second hand to save cost.

The only reason I'm considering these new through this authorized retailer is because of the 3 year warranty knowing how many people have had QC issues.

My understanding is the driver(s) pop and/or just stop working altogether, which is strange because Focal is a respected loudspeaker manufacturer.

For those whose broke, were you listening at loud volumes or something? What caused the driver(s) to fail?

Thanks for the insight and to the others commenting on this thread.

Although I'm motivated to grab a set of high end headphones, I'll pump the brakes on this deal.

I didn't even think about replacing the ear pads with OEM ones to preserve the sound integrity...

i have 2 focals (these elex and elegia) and have had zero issues.

i've owned many headphones from sennheisier, hifiman, fostex, audeze, zmf.... these are my favorite in terms of sound, comfort, and build. elex is endgame for me, which is crazy considering i paid $350 open box from headphones.com.

There's probably a lot of people that have never heard of focal since it's not something you can buy at Best Buy and they don't have any big advertising campaigns but they are a great company that just goes by the reputation out of France and make some unbelievable quality products. I have their top-of-the-line speakers in my car and they are incredible.

I think they all still use the same headband, so the plastic is still a point of failure. My Focal Clear headband just broke the other day, so it sucks to pay so much and have that risk of failure.
