I've always heard the opposite, i.e., that Discover is consumer-friendly on chargebacks and disputes, and that's why a lot of merchants won't accept it.

If I buy $100 gift card (to be used within a few months) and get 5% back, my net cost is $95 (plus any interest I lose out on from the day of purchase, but would take a year to lose out on $5)

If I put that $100 in a HYSA, it takes me a year to earn $5

So if you buy gift cards that you will use within a year you will come out ahead

No it isn't many legit businesses rarely ever get chargebacks so that extra fees that discover takes from businesses using their card is not worth it. Some business run on tight margins, like 2-5% profit per so it makes no sense to give discover an extra %.

Well, guess it was a good thing we maxed out the $1,500 last year then. Saved $75 on those Shop Cards.

Down to our last $100 card

Guess there is still the option when/if Chase does Warehouse Categories in the future.
