Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
scroll down to Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier

Just tried adding a line to my existing Metro account and it failed.
Does anybody know how long the hold Metro has on the GV numbers?

Also, their CS sucks. Called them (my mistake) and they wanted me to go in store and pay more for the iPhone 11. They said they don't do Apple phones online and that the store will not honor any of the online promotions for Apple. Gave them low scores on the survey at the end of the call.

Called customer support to release port hold. Started a fresh order. This time i got the right account number from Cox and again the Metro website doesn't like something while processing the payment for order.
Now its back to the port info page and keeps giving me an error "Sorry, we are currently experiencing technical issues. Please try again."

The interesting part is the iOS was 17.2 when I opened it. Brand new, Apple sealed. But even at 2 years, the battery is brand new.
From usage standpoint, yes, it's brand new since it has not been used. But from actual age of the battery material, it's 2+ years old. It may not have much negative impact on battery life but just want to put it out there.

You can go to Metro web site, scroll all the way to the bottom and click on Activate (below the Support heading). It'll ask for your Order Number, Name and Zip Code to locate your order so you can activate it. If you're wanting to activate it early so you can log into your account and order the next phone as an Existing Customer, that won't work because Metro will text a six-digit Security Code to the SIM in the phone. Without that code, you can't login.

The order status page also lets you activate once the order is shipped. The only problem from what I read is that the activation process isn't complete until you input a code that is sent to your phone when you hit that activate button.

In my past experiences, you don't need open the box...the activation is complete.
even you don't need to do anything, the phone will be activated on day 21 of shipping label created
I opened the phone box on day 180 after activation to get it unlocked.

I ordered Iphone 12 and will be receiving it today , will activate and make some calls to make sure that phone is registered on the network

Any thoughts , if I port out the number after 20-25 days, will it still be unlocked after 180 days ?

Thanks for help in advance
It would be great If I can port out my number after 20-25 days and phone can still be unlocked after 180 days. I want keep the number if possible. Can someone please confirm if that's doable?

Yes I've done it with an iPhone.
I ordered an iPhone 12 Friday and it arrived today. I logged in to my account and clicked "add a line". Ordered another iPhone 12 and only had to pay $30 for the plan! Used same email, cc, address. Total was $130 plus $6 tax.
I have no idea why some people can get as many phones as they want and others get hangups in ordering.

What should you do if you never able to pass their identity verification system. I tried 6-8 times over the last few days and no luck. Has anyone tried the Metro Store? Any success without being ripped off?

A (very) few people got lucky and had a good experience with their trip to a Metro store. But most had bad experiences. I went to my local Metro Store last year and their salespeople were actiing like a bunch of sleazy, hungry car salesmen. A friend of mine went to his Metro store in AZ to get a Samsung S23FE and below is his story:

"Well, my one experience with Metro store confirmed that at least some of them are as scummy, sleazy, as we read! Went in to get an S23FE with port of one of my TF numbers. They said it was $65 plan, $25 activation fee and sales taxes on the full $600 normal price. Was to be about $135 and they would throw in a case and screen protector. I questioned the tax on the "normal" price as in AZ we only pay tax on the transaction price. They insisted that was the way it was. I said OK and went ahead with it. Got the phone and started to drive away and saw that they had charged me for the case and screen protector and $75 for the first months service but only $4.73 tax. Total was $134.72. I went back in and asked them for a corrected receipt that showed $65 charge (they now said the $75 included $10 insurance that they earlier said was free for the first month), the free accessories and the sales tax on the $600. I knew they would only remit $4.73 to AZ for the tax. After some back and forth, they said they could only reverse the whole transaction, but I would lose my TF number that I ported in. I said I would see how the FCC and the AZ Attorney General Consumer Fraud office would feel about it. They then offered a $43.43 refund to return the case. I said OK. So, the end result was $91.29 for the phone, 1 month service, insurance and a screen protector, AND a very bad taste in my mouth for Metro stores! ".
