Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
scroll down to Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier

Thank you. My theory is that one failed attempt of a GV port will lock out that number for all subsequent attempts. (IDK if its the fault of GV or Metro).

So basically you get one shot to get it to go through, if not you need to find another port number.
was not the case for me, FYI

sorry regards I bought nord n30 for 5 bucks and installed gcam with it.
I'm good for 2-3 years.

please fundamentally go fuk yourselves for constantly raising prices.
IDGAF about screen quality that much except it not breaking on every drop.

Camera and performance with some durability is good.

everything else is extra.
The camera is said to suck but if you install gcam its ok.

Just as a point of information it's enough to activate your phone to get it unlocked 6 months later. You don't have to ever set up an account. The only reason I set up an account in this deal was to order a second phone on a $30 plan.

So u mean once you get successful activation email including account number is it good to go? I really don't want to open iPhone 12 package. Hope that email will be enough for unlock.

How are you going to put the SIM card in the phone to activate if you don't open the box?

That should be enough. A warning however on iPhone unlocks. In my experience they often take longer than 180 days by a few days. In my worst case my iPhone 7 from metro took 180 days plus 2 weeks. Android phones almost always unlock on day 180.

I see a lot of comments that not opening the phone box and just activating or letting Metro auto-activate after 21 days is enough to start the 180-day unlock clock. Has anyone successfully done this? In my experience, this does not work. I had a Moto G Stylus that auto-activated and sealed in box but did not unlock after 180 days. I think the Metro SIM needs to associate with Metro's network to start the clock (e.g. inserted into phone and turned on once). You run a risk of waiting 180 days for nothing if you haven't opened the box and turned the phone on with the SIM card.

I don't know if the phone will be unlocked if no calls/texts were ever made on it.

From my past experience!
From last year I had over 5 more Metro phones did not open the box until 180 days after activation.
On day 180, I opened the box and charged phone, no SIM card need put in, connect to the Wi-Fi . From phone menu to request permanent unlock, all were successful !
the rule is very clear ! 180 days after activation! there is no need to make call, no need SIM card plug in. there is no automatic unlock for Android phone, you have to request to unlock manually . the only two model s - Apple device ( iPhone) and Google Pixel phone would have automatedly unlocking.

You need manually request to get unlocked . it won't happen automatically . No risk and no magic...
