Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...

I bought the Metro i12 for $175 with tax. I'm playing wih it to see if I can tolerate the differences between iOS and Android, because occassionally there are bank and movie deals that require iOS. If I don't keep it, I can sell to BuyBackBoss for at least $200, more if unlocked. I also bought an i11 for $65. I activated it yesterday but kept unopened. I'm gambling that it will be unlocked after 180 days. If it gets unlocked, I can sell it to BBB new-in-box for $240. If it remains locked BBB will pay $180. Price might drop $20 in 6 months. I should still make some money with it to offset my cost of the i12.
Just wondering if you don't open the phone from the box, how can you logon to your account?
Each time I tried to logon to my account on Metro website, it text the code to the phone, so basically you need to open the phone to receive the text. No?

Yes. No emails. But checking the order status shows it's been shipped and the "Activate" button is purple. I'm hopeful everything is ok.

Just a FYI for any of you who are using a google voice number and you can make calls but not receive them and if you don't care about keeping the number, as long as it's been 24 hours you can call Metro and have your number changed for free. (They allow it once per year) Then your new number will let you call and receive calls right away plus you can still pick whatever area code you want and hear the selection of the next 3 available digits. 888-863-8768

I had to do it because of a number I got off of Ebay. The number was parked at Number Barn.

I don't really need to log into my account that has the iPhone11. I've bought enough Metro phones, and based on the info in my current account that has the iPhone12, I know that Auto-Pay is OFF by default, and when I don't pay for the 2nd month Metro will suspend my line after the 1st month, and close the account after another 30 days. I don't need to do anything in the account.

you have a magic account can see it's in stock...your $30 plan is great, but obviously it does not work for the discount , that is the problem !
Enjoy your findings!

Did you use GV number to port ? I got the iphone 11 and after putting in the SIM and trying to make a call, it said it is not active and to hold for customer service. Does port in take a while ? I cannot activate since i added the line from an existing account.

I just ported in from GV this evening with my new iPhone 11 - I couldn't get it to activate on my own so I did a chat with customer support and they got it activated in no time. They just had to take a look at my account and confirm my zip code and it worked.
