Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...

Please use this number to complete your GV port.

I called this number, and the very helpful agent knew what I was talking about and assured me that everything would resolve right away.

When do they port your number? When u activate the phone it when u order the phone? I have 21 days left on my prepaid phone and would like to buy now and activate in 21 days when my current plan expires.
Metro will check your port-in number, acct #, PIN, and reserve the number to Metro when ordering. Porting actually takes place when the phone is activated by yourself or automatically 21 days after shipped.

I have trouble activating my phone. I ported from GV. Got an email from Gv that number is ported away. I tried to activate the line once I received my iphone 11. Failed message. Contacted customer care , they conformed number ported successfully, the phone needs to be activated. They tried from their side and see the same error. They opened a ticket for phone activation. Not sure what happened. Two phones (iphone 11 & moto stylus) prior to this are activated fine and working well.

As a backup plan if the phone doesn't get activated, can I still trade it to apple for credit?

I've never traded-in with Apple, but people who did told me that Apple doesn't care if the phone is still locked, as long as it's not blacklisted due to money still owed, reported stolen, etc.

It's strange that GV emailed you that the number had been ported out. Usually, Metro only reserved the number when ordering, but porting doesn't actually take place until the phone is activated. Most of us even had to call Metro to complete the port-in from GV because GV didn't release the number. We could make calls and texts, but incoming calls/texts still went to GV.

Yea I know. I had to do the same for my previous Gv port where I had to call metro after 10 days that I'm still not receiving incoming calls. But this one I received an email from google that number ported away even before the phone was delivered.

It could be that the agent who helped you with the porting saw the pending number for the order to be shipped and completed it too. My agent saw a pending number for my failed order and completed the port for it. As such, it's now a Metro number with no phone tied to it.

By this time, you would think Metro should take a look at how many port-in requests are pending, manually complete those that have been activated and update their system to automate the process for future activations.

Yes, one would think a company should do that to lighten the number of calls to their agents. But I worked in mainframe IT for 35 years and there were problems that never got reported by the Help Desk to the proper people in Programming to get them fixed. I only found out about those problems when I talked to Help Desk people in unrelated meetings.

Got all 3 ports completed by calling. Account is letting me add a fourth line but I think I'm done for now. I already have theMoto G stylus and the Razr doesn't interest me. Hope to see new phones offered in the next few months.

OK, I finally decided to give them a call to complete the porting, but it didn't work for me after talking to two reps! The reason? I wasn't getting the verification code on the number I gave them. This is my first line and the only one for which I have the sim card in the device. I don't understand - I've been getting verification codes from 611 every time I log in to my account on this number. I wonder what the origination number is and if I have blocked it somehow. Maybe I should sign out iCloud so that the list of blocked numbers I've added over the years won't apply?

Any ideas?

I had this same problem on one of my phones but they verified on a different iPhone on my account. Make sure iMessage is on perhaps. Otherwise I still think your phone will unlock at 6 months. Perhaps they can email you a code?

Are there any concrete info on whether the phones will unlock in 6 months if we don't call in to complete the porting?

Nope! it is still $99 for port-in. I tested to add into my cart , $99 +$65 plan to checkout with $530 saving!
