Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
scroll down to Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier

Not really. I tried around 5:30am at the McDonald's restaurant when I drank coffee there. I used my phone 5G data, not the WiFi from McDonald's. A month ago it worked for me at the same time and at the same place too. I think I was lucky that's all. Both successful times I used my phone 5G data with Microsoft Edge browser at around 5:30am at McDonald's restaurant.
Ok, seems to be random, I tried so many times and not going thru even for different phones (iPhone11/12, S23, A15), different credit cards, existing or new accounts. Planning to call them to see if they can help placing order.

First rep was wrong that I had to wait 10 days for porting to be completed because it's a landline. Called back and the 2nd rep pushed it through and now I can receive calls.

I'm new to register google voice, and it seems google only let you register one gv phone number per one real number(need a physical real number to vertify before getting a google voice number). After porting out, can i get a second gv phone number? Because these port-in deals are often and or if i want to purchase multiple phone? Thanks

Deal is dead ?
even if I choose discounted phone when I reach checkout the discount goes away.

Also GV port keeps failing with msg - "Reach out to metro to complete order"
I have been calling them for last 3 days and they keep sending me from one dept to another.
3-4 hrs wasted on phone.

Perhaps point 2 explains point 1.

As mentioned earlier, call 800-518-7519 for the for the porting department. By now, they're aware of the issue, as I have done it twice within 10–20 minutes max.

Just make sure you call from a different phone number (not the one you ported to Metro) as customer service asks you to shut down and restart the phone while they're manually porting in the background.
Yep actually I have been calling to the direct port department but the same answer about that everything seems to be fine only wait for 24 hrs, today I call again , they told me that I need to wait now 72hrs because they submitted a ticket yesterday, they offer me a new metro number but…. I don't know if the unlocking process will be affected if I choose the new number or maybe metro could charge me the entire full price of the cellphone

* When placing your order, did you go through the step of having Metro check your port-in number? If you didn't do that, or your port-in number didn't pass the check, then your order doesn't meet the port-in requirement and it'll show the full price.
* At which step did it say to contact Metro to complete your order? Is it AFTER it already said your port-in number was successfully reserved and you submitted the order? If yes, then your order failed because it didn't pass Metro's seemingly random rejection of some people's orders, NOT because your GV port-in failed.

See attachments.

I'm not sure why they ask you to wait 72 hours.

In my case, I called them after I received and activated the phone. Basically, call them after 4-5 days after placing the order.

Just tried to add a second line to my account and had trouble with porting a Tracfone number. It seemed like the order was going through fine, then it failed at the last step saying the information didn't match the account for porting. Tried a second time with the same results and gave up. Then, an hour later, I checked the Tracfone line and it shows deactivated, so it appears I did have the right info. Metro no longer shows an add a line button. Is this like the failed GV issue where I will have another chance to do it tomorrow?

Yeah wait for 5-6 hours.

Next time, login using your metro mobile device (line 1 in your case) to order. If possible, use Chrome and metro internet (turn off wifi).

In fact, login to your account right now using a metro device (line 1) and see if the add line option is available. I think once the temporary hold is gone, you should see the add line option.

Ok, thanks for the response. I tried logging onto my account using line 1's data and still no add a line button. I will check again tomorrow.

I tried to port my # and it went to verify your identity stage.
I clicked continued but nothing happened. Then Metro said my order was cancelled.

I tried to place another order using the same port in #. It would not accept the same port in # this time!

What are the best approach?

Metro usually frees up the phone number used in a failed order after 4-6 hrs. If you didn't see the ID verification questions, turn off any ad/pop-up blockers of your browsers. The ID verification questions are timed, if you don't respond quickly, you fail and your order is cancelled.

Well, the add a line button is back now. The first screen says the number is available to transfer, it accepts the account number and PIN, but after putting in the credit card, it fails. I think it's failing now because Tracfone shows the number as inactive. I guess I can try contacting Tracfone's porting department but that may be more effort than I want to put into this.
